这本书由基建工程兵北京指挥部医院军医李文亮、北京中医学院齐强等同志编，共收录了治疗多种常见病和疑难病症的有效中医处方近1，100个。这些处方结合所治病症附有中医辨证、治疗法则、临床效果及其说明。在临床效果栏内，对所治典型病例，介绍比较详细，除有明确的现代医学诊断外，还有中西医检查的记录（包括化验及X光等特殊检查的记录），在书后附录中还编有“变通用药参考”，“常用中草药现代药理研究资料参考”和“部分常用中草药别名参考”。此书内容丰富，通俗易懂，不仅适合各级中西医医务人员业务参考，而且也适合具有初中以上文化水平的人阅读和应用，对已确诊的病人，则可参阅此书选方自治。
《千家妙方》全书分为上下册。上册为内科部分，下册包括外科、妇产科、儿科、五官科、综合征、肿瘤科和附录部分。该书由中华全国中医学会理事、北京中医学院的刘渡舟教授和中华全国中医学会理事、中国人民解放军总医院中医科主任陈树森副教授审阅。另外，中华全国中医学会副会长、国务院学位委员会医学评议组成员、北京中医学院的任应秋教授，为该书题了词，并题写了书名。

Book Abstract

应用夏枯草汤已使四个甲状腺腺瘤患者获痊愈。
孙××，男，44岁，干部。1975年9月18日初诊。患者发现颈部肿物已半年多，开始如杏核大，以后渐发展为鸡蛋大小，曾在某医院住院治疗，体温达38℃至39℃之间，用过抗菌素，如红霉素等治疗而效果不佳，因有高血压病，未能作手术治疗。后到某医大肿瘤科诊治，诊断为甲状腺腺瘤，亦准备住院手术治疗。
患者头晕，头不能低，颈部疼痛且有压迫感，并伴有肩臂疼，食欲不振，精神忧郁，脉弦有力。且有高血压病及牛皮癣。检查前颈偏左有圆形肿块一个，约4.5×4cm大小，质稍硬，随吞噤可上下移动。周身及四肢可见牛皮癣满布，块大小不等。按照中医之瘿瘤，给以“夏枯草汤”治疗。服药至9月28日，体温逐渐减退，而至正常。又继续照原方服用至10月11日，头晕、颈痛等症均减，颈肿块见软且缩小，肿块变至杏核大小。继续照方服用至12月8日，头晕、颈痛及肩臂痛均消失，肿块亦消失，已触不到。同时周身牛皮癣亦伴服药也消失。1979年11月24日追访，病人身体健壮，颈部肿块一直未见复发。而牛皮癣愈后2年又复发，别法为治。

从根本上说，《千家妙方》是千百人共同劳动的成果。该书所录近1，100个中医处方，来自全国30个省、市、自治区（包括台湾省）的近600名医家或医疗单位。这些医家大部分是全国各地的著名老中医，其中相当一部分人是教授或副教授，本书内容即是他们宝贵经验的一部分。这些处方绝大部分是他们亲笔提供的，其余则是精选自他们近年来出版的医案或在医药杂志上发表的材料。
我们在编写和整理过程中得到了这些著名老中医的大力支持和具体帮助。除任应秋教授、刘渡舟教授、陈树森副教授外（见出版说明），北京中医研究院的沈仲圭教授，曾多次亲自进行耐心和认真的指导。
