Book Abstract

地表现象异常复杂。有自然地物和人文地物，各种地物形状各异、关系复杂。但是，在GIS中人们将它们抽象，用数字表达可以归结为四大类：数字线划数据、影像数据、数字高程模型和地物的属性数据。
数字线划数据是将空间地物直接抽象为点、线、面的实体，用坐标描述它的位置和形状。这种抽象的概念直接来源于地形测图的思想。一条道路虽然有一定的宽度，并且弯弯曲曲，但是测量时，测量员首先把它看作是一条线，并在一些关键的转折点上测量它的坐标，这一串坐标描述出它的位置和形状。当要清绘地图时，根据道路等级给予它配赋一定宽度、线型和颜色。这种描述也非常适用于计算机表达，即用抽象图形表达地理空间实体。实际上大多数GIS都是以数字线划数据为核心。
影像数据包括遥感影像和航空影像，它可以是彩色影像，也可以是灰度影像。影像数据在现代GIS中起越来越重要的作用。其主要原因：一是数据源丰富，二是生产效率’高，三是它直观而又详细地记录了地表的自然现象，人们使用它可以加工出各种信息，如进一步采集数字线划数据。在GIS中影像数据一般经过几何和灰度加工处理，使它变成具有定位信息的数字正射影像。
数字高程模型实际上是地表物体的高程信息。但是由于高程数据的采集、处理以及管理和应用都比较特殊，所以在GIS中往往作为一种专门的空间数据来讨论。数字高程模型可以由数字摄影测量方法直接采集得到，也可由其他测量方法，如野外测量或扫描数字化之后，经过数据处理得到。
