当今时代，新一轮科技革命与产业变革正在孕育兴起，信息化发展进入以大数据、云计算、移动互联网、智慧物联网为主要标志的智慧化时代，信息网络向着泛在网演进，各类装备通过联网而增强智能。

面对信息化发展的形势，党中央、国务院做出了英明的决策。2013年9月30日，中共中央政治局在北京中关村以实施创新驱动发展战略为题举行第九次集体学习，习近平总书记指出：“即将出现的新一轮科技革命和产业变革与我国加快转变经济发展方式形成历史性交汇，为我们实施创新驱动发展战略提供了难得的重大机遇。机会稍纵即逝，抓住了就是机遇，抓不住就是挑战。”

党的十八大做出了坚持走中国特色新型工业化、信息化道路，推动信息化和工业化深度融合，全面推进“四化两型”建设等一系列战略部署。2013年国务院先后出台了推进物联网有序健康发展、促进信息消费等一系列文件，2014年又召开了全国物联网工作电视电话会议，对推进物联网产业有序健康发展做出了安排。最近，中央成立网络安全和信息化领导小组，把网络安全和信息化工作放在特别重要的位置上，明确提出了建设网络强国的目标。

浙江是全国经济较为发达的省份，目前正处于居民生活消费、企业装备投资消费、城市公共环保与安全消费、政府公共服务消费转型升级的时期，网络信息技术市场空间十分广阔。2013年10月，工业和信息化部正式批复浙江为全国第一个“信息化与工业化深度融合国家示范区”。

为了更好地把握历史性交汇的重大机遇，实施创新驱动发展战略，打造工业强省，走出一条依靠科技创新、加快生产制造方式变革的新型工业化发展之路，建设好“信息化与工业化深度融合国家示范区”，浙江省以物联网为重要抓手，在发展物联网产业和推动物联网应用方面做了大量工作，取得了显著效益。

本书作者毛光烈同志作为分管浙江省工业、科技方面工作的副省长，在组织物联网产业发展和推动应用中有深刻的体会，他对当前物联网发展的机遇及其利用进行了深入研究与分析，有独特的见解。本书提出，物联网是云、管、端一体化的一个体系，它促进了新兴产业的大发展、市场的全面升级和向网络制造方式转型的新工业革命的到来。物联网产业发展的显著特点是产品换代（智能化升级）、机器换人（自动化、网络化）、制造换法（机联网与厂联网的绿色与安全制造）、商务换型（创造新的商业模式）、管理换脑（以智慧“云脑”替代“人脑”）。
