Book Abstract

A0组织（AOOrganization）的主要目的是进行外科教育。因此，AOX~]f有志于脊柱外科的新一代临床医生进行知识和能力的培养，并为此付出了巨大的心血。在AO脊柱教程中所获得的知识或者技能，将迅速在AO组织内外得到快速的推广与应用。一些骨科医生成功地将AO骨折治疗原则（2AO原则在脊柱领域的应用；3AO脊柱外科历史）应用到脊柱骨折和脱位的处理中。这些治疗理念明显缩短了术后制动时间，毫无疑问提高了脊柱骨折治疗的效率，这与AO治疗理念在四肢骨折治疗中的应用一致。这些先驱者将脊柱骨折治疗的经验应用到非创伤性脊柱疾患的治疗理念中。
第l版AO脊柱手册（《AO／AsIF脊柱外科原则》）于1998年出版，第一次尝试着将脊柱外科知识形成一种规范的外科技术和可一步一步进行指导的指南或者步骤。
然而，早在20世纪90年代，Aebi和Webb及其他教员就开始系统地调整了脊柱教程的结构，它抛弃了传统的“前沿”报告和宣讲模式：从那时起，每一个教学部分都是基于一个或多个扎实的实例。以这些扎实的例子为基础，将外科理念和实际应用有机地结合起来，形成了一个教员和学员良性的互动局面：讲师变成了教员，并试图将每个人融入教与学的过程中；讲师的作用是将学员从临床实例的讨论引入现有理论体系的框架，通过对目前的文献和指南进行综述，使学员了解理论框架。据此，通过不断地“思考”和总结，这些临床实际病例就像一块块基石，构建成当前知识的理论框架。
交互式课堂学习理念从此诞生，在很多有激情的老师和学生的努力下，不断成熟完善，并成为今天AO脊柱教程的准则。
然而，只有在参与者具有一定程度基本知识（需经系统性教育获得）的前提下，互动式讨论和病例式教学才能发挥作用。脊柱外科医生需掌握临床实践和技术应用的相关基础知识，这是能够良好地开展临床工作的基础与工具。
由于这些原因，在2001年，本书的编辑们开始设计一本全新的AO脊柱手册，它继承了AO这些年在教学过程中的经验和方法。与此前的工作相比，该手册的编订意味着一个全面的格式转变。
长期以来，外科书籍的编写一直按照非常经典但又不断重复的格式进行：背景简介、流行病学、病理生理学、临床诊断、放射影像的评估、手术适应证、手术技巧和1～2个临床病例。现代的电子工具加上那些“复制，粘贴”的思维模式，很容易复制这些书籍的篇章框架。
