Author Description

沈从文（1902-1988），湖南凤凰县人，20世纪最优秀的中国文学家之一。早年投身行伍，1924年开始文学创作，是白话文革命的重要践行者和代表作家。主要著作有：小说《边城》《长河》《龙朱》《虎雏》《月下小景》等，散文《从文自传》《湘行散记》《湘西》等，文论《废邮存底》及续集、《烛虚》《云南看云集》等。20世纪50年代后主要从事中国古代文物研究，晚年编著的《中国古代服饰研究》填补了中国文物研究史上的一项空白。沈从文凭一颗诚心，一支笔，用最干净的文字塑造了纯美的湘西世界。他的作品，满是自然的美丽和人性的纯粹。在充满焦虑甚至苦难的现实中，他笔下的世界，给我们的心灵开辟了一方净土。

“先生，您第一次来青岛看海吗？”
“先生，您要到海边去玩，从草坪走去，穿过那片树林子，就是海。”
“先生，您想远远地看海，瞧，草坪西边，走过那个树林子——那是加拿大杨树，那是银杏树，从那个银杏树夹道上山，山头可以看海。”
“先生，他们说，青岛海与一切海都不同，比中国各地方海都美丽。比北戴河呢，强过一百倍；您不到过北戴河吗？那里海水是清的、浑的？”
“先生，今天七月五号，还有五天学校才上课。上了课，您们就忙了，应当先看看海。”
青岛住宅区××山上，一座白色小楼房，楼下一个光线充足的房间里，到地不过五十分钟的达士先生，正靠近窗前眺望窗外的景致。看房子的听差，一面为来客收拾房子，整理被褥，一面就同来客攀谈。这种谈话很显然的是这个听差希望客人对他得到一个好印象的。第一回开口，见达士先生笑笑不理会，顺眼一看，瞅着房中那口小皮箱上面贴的那个黄色大轮船商标，觉悟达士先生是出过洋的人物了，因此就换了口气，要来客注意青岛的海。达士先生还是笑笑不说什么，那听差于是解嘲似的说，青岛的海与其他地方的海如何不同，它很神秘，很不易懂。
分内事情做完后，这听差搓着两只手，站在房门边说：“先生，您叫我，就按那个铃。我名王大福，他们都叫我老王。先生，我的话您懂不懂？”
达士先生直到这个时候方开口说话：“谢谢你，老王。你说话我全听得懂。”
“先生，我看过一本书，学校朱先生写的，名叫《投海》，有意思。”这听差老王那么很得意地说着，笑眯眯地走了。天知道，这是一本什么书。
听差出门后，达士先生便坐在窗前书桌边，开始给他那个远在两千里外的美丽未婚妻写信。瑗瑗：
我到青岛了。来到了这里，一切真同家中一样。请放心，这里吃的住的全预备得好好的！这里有个照料房子的听差，样子还不十分讨人厌，很欢喜说话，且欢喜在说话时使用一些新名词，一些与他生活不大相称的新名词。这听差真可以说是个“准知识阶级”，他刚刚离开我的房间。在房间帮我料理行李时，就为青岛的海，说了许多好话。照我的猜想，这个人也许从前是个海滨旅馆的茶房。他那派头很像一个大旅馆的茶房。他一定知道许多故事，记着许多故事（真是我需要的一头母牛）。我想当他作一册活字典，在这里两个月把他翻个透熟。
我窗口正望着海，那东西，真有点儿迷惑人！可是你放心，我不会跳到海里去的。假若到这里久一点儿，认识了它，了解了它，我可不敢说了。不过我若一不小心失足掉到海里去了，我一定还将努力向岸边泅来，因为那时我心想起你，我不会让海把我攫住，却尽你一个人孤孤单单。达士先生打量捕捉一点儿窗外景物到信纸上，寄给远地那个人看看，停住了笔，抬起头来时窗外野景便朗然入目。草坪树林与远海，衬托得如一幅动人的画。达士先生于是又继续写道：我房子的小窗口正对着一片草坪，那是经过一种精密的设计，用人工料理得如一块美丽毯子的草坪，上面点缀了一些不知名的黄色花草，远远望去，那些花简直是绣在上面的，这让我想起家中客厅里你做的那个小垫子。草坪尽头有个白杨林，据听差说那是加拿大种白杨林。林尽头是一片大海，颜色仿佛时时刻刻皆在那里变化；先前看看是条深蓝色缎带，这个时节却正如一块银子。达士先生还想引用两句诗，说明这远海与天地的光色。一抬头，便见着草坪里有个黄色点子，恰恰镶嵌在全草坪最需要一点黄色的地方。那是一个穿着浅黄颜色袍子女人的身影。那女人正预备通过草坪向海边走去，随即消失在白杨树林里不见了。人俨然走入海里去了。
没有一句诗能说明阳光下那种一刹而逝的微妙感印。
达士先生于是把寄给未婚妻的第一个信，用下面几句话做了结束：学校离我住处不算远，估计只有一里路，上课时，还得上一个小小山头，通过一个长长的槐树夹道。山路上正开着野花，颜色黄澄澄的如金子。我欢喜那种不知名的黄花。达士先生下火车时是上午×点二十分。到地把住处安排好了，写完信，就过学校教务处去接洽，同教务长商量暑期学校十二个钟头讲演的分配方法。事很简便地办完了，就独自一人跑到海滨一个小餐馆吃了一顿很好的午饭。回到住处时，已是下午×点了。便又起始给那个未婚妻写信，报告半天中经过的事情。瑗瑗：
我已经过教务处把我那十二个讲演时间排定了。所有时间皆在上午十点前。有八个讲演，讨论的问题，全是我在北京学校教过的那些东西。我不用预备就可以把它讲得很好。另外我还担任四点钟现代中国文学，两点钟讨论几个现代中国小说家所代表的倾向。你想象得出，这些问题我上堂同他们讨论时，一定能够引起他们的兴味。今天五号，过五天方能够开学。
我应当照我们约好的办法，白天除了上堂上图书馆，或到海边去散步以外，就来把所见所闻一一告给你。我要努力这样做。我一定使你每天可以接到我一封信，这信上有个我，与我在此所见社会的种种，小米大的事也不会瞒你。
我现在的住处是一座外表很可观的楼房。这原是学校特别为几个远地聘来的教授布置的。住在这个房子里的一共有八个人，其余七个我皆不相熟。这里住的有物理学家教授甲，生物学家教授乙，道德哲学家教授丙，哲学专家教授丁，以及西洋文学史专家教授戊等。这些名流我还不曾见面，过几天我会把他们的神气一一告诉你。
