余华，1960年出生、1983年开始写作。至今已经出版长篇小说4部，中短篇小说集6部，随笔集4部。主要作品有《兄弟》《活着》《许三观卖血记》《在细雨中呼喊》等。其作品已被翻译成20多种语言在美国、英国、法国、德国、意大利、西班牙、荷兰、瑞典、挪威、希腊、饿罗斯、保加利亚、匈牙利、捷克、塞尔维亚、斯洛伐克、波兰、巴西、以色列、日本、韩国、越南、泰国和印度等国出版。曾获意大利格林扎纳·卡佛文学奖（1998年）、法国文学和艺术骑士勋章（2004年）、中华图书特殊贡献奖（2005年）、法国国际信使外国小说奖（2008年）等。

许三观是城里丝厂的送茧工，这一天他回到村里来看望他的爷爷。他爷爷年老以后眼睛昏花，看不见许三观在门口的脸，就把他叫到面前，看了一会后问他：

“我儿，你的脸在哪里？”

许三观说：“爷爷，我不是你儿，我是你孙子，我的脸在这里……”

许三观把他爷爷的手拿过来，往自己脸上碰了碰，又马上把爷爷的手送了回去。爷爷的手掌就像他们工厂的砂纸。

他爷爷问：“你爹为什么不来看我？”

“我爹早死啦。”

他爷爷点了点头，口水从嘴角流了出来，那张嘴就歪起来吸了两下，将口水吸回去了一些，爷爷说：

“我儿，你身子骨结实吗？”

“结实。”许三观说，“爷爷，我不是你儿……”

他爷爷继续说：“我儿，你也常去卖血？”

许三观摇摇头：“没有，我从来不卖血。”

“我儿……”爷爷说，“你没有卖血，你还说身子骨结实？我儿，你是在骗我。”

“爷爷，你在说些什么？我听不懂，爷爷，你是不是老糊涂了？”

许三观的爷爷摇起了头，许三观说：

“爷爷，我不是你儿，我是你的孙子。”

“我儿……”他爷爷说，“你爹不肯听我的话，他看上了城里

“金花，那是我妈。”

“你爹来对我说，说他到年纪了，他要到城里去和那个什么花结婚，我说你两个哥哥都还没有结婚，大的没有把女人娶回家，先让小的去娶，在我们这地方没有这规矩……”

坐在叔叔的屋顶上，许三观举目四望，天空是从很远处的泥土里升起来的，天空红彤彤的越来越高，把远处的田野也映亮了，使庄稼变得像西红柿那样通红一片，还有横在那里的河流和爬过去的小路，那些树木，那些茅屋和池塘，那些从屋顶歪歪曲曲升上去的炊烟，它们都红了。

许三观的四叔正在下面瓜地里浇粪，有两个女人走过来，一个年纪大了，一个还年轻，许三观的叔叔说：

“桂花越长越像妈了。”

年轻的女人笑了笑，年长的女人看到了屋顶上的许三观，她问：

“你家屋顶上有一个人，他是谁？”

许三观的叔叔说：“是我三哥的儿子。”

下面三个人都抬着头看许三观，许三观嘿嘿笑着去看那个名叫桂花的年轻女人，看得桂花低下了头，年长的女人说：

“和他爹长得一个样子。”

许三观的四叔说：“桂花下个月就要出嫁了吧？”

年长的女人摇着头：“桂花下个月不出嫁，我们退婚了。”

“退婚了？”许三观的四叔放下了手里的粪勺。

年长的女人压低声音说：“那男的身体败掉了，吃饭只能吃这么一碗，我们桂花都能吃两碗……”

许三观的叔叔也压低了声音问：“他身体怎么败的？”

“不知道是怎么败的……”年长的女人说，“我先是听人说，说他快有一年没去城里医院卖血了，我心里就打起了锣鼓，想着他的身体是不是不行了，就托人把他请到家里来吃饭，看他能吃多少，他要是吃两大碗，我就会放心些，他要是吃了三碗，桂花就是他的人了……他吃完了一碗，我要去给他添饭，他说吃饱了，吃不下去了……一个粗粗壮壮的男人，吃不下饭，身体肯定是败掉了……”
