Book Abstract

第1章集团的发展历程
简要回顾一下科氏工业集团的发展历程，就能够进一步理解MBM模式。从公司初创起，这种模式一直起着主导作用。
就从我的曾经当过印刷学徒的祖父哈里·科克（Harry Koch）说起吧。1888年，祖父从荷兰移民到美国，三年后便定居在得克萨斯州的夸纳（Quanah）。在那里他收购了一家濒临破产的周报和附属的印刷工场。这份报纸便是至今仍然在发行的《简要论坛报》（Tribune—Chief）。
家族移民美国与创业
夸纳是个穷地方，祖父的许多顾客通过实物来支付部分款项。出生于1900年的父亲弗雷德·科克，当时认为呆在夸纳守着印刷厂没有前途，于是就离家到莱斯（Rice，一所私立的研究型综合大学，位于休斯顿市区。——译者注）学习工程学，大学二年级时父亲被选为学生会主席。后来他得悉麻省理工学院开设首个化学工程课程，便转至该学院学习。在麻省理工学院学习期间，他还担任过拳击队队长。于1922年毕业后，父亲接连受雇于三家公司，并一直担任化学工程师职位。

2004年，我初次接触到MBM就立刻被它深深地吸引住了。后来又有幸专门从事MBM工作，并得到了MBM团队同事们非常有价值的指导，越发感觉到它的精妙和博大精深，感觉好像是打开了一个知识世界的大门。科氏工业集团能从一家中小公司在几十年间不靠股票市场融资发展成世界最大的私人控股公司，实实在在是经历了几十年持续的学习，探索和实践。这本书非常认真详尽地讲述了MBM管理理念。这里，我想以一个中国员工的角度谈一下自己关于M[BM的一些了解。
西方的管理念能否在中国适用，我的想法是基本上是可行的，这是因为MBM研究的是人类行为的科学，研究的是人类的本性，而在这一点上人类是没有什么区别的。
