电影以余味定输赢

我成了艺术院会员。我想，这大概可以说明，国家终于认可电影是艺术了。这事我也大吃了一惊，感觉成了什么伟大人物。沟口（健二）君要是还活着，我想，他会成为第一个入选会员的电影人。

但是，我不可能因为当上了艺术院会员，便就此宣称“我只拍艺术电影”。我身在松竹，与松竹的员工都是朋友，所以必须为松竹着想。电影这东西的性质本就如此，不能只考虑到自己的得益，更何况电影的制作费变得越来越高了。

二月，我母亲去世，所以大家都说：“今年你家又有喜事，又有不幸。”死是上天的安排，并不是什么不幸。骨灰放在家里，我也不能日日诵经，所以前不久我去高野山安放了它。

电影也渐渐出现宽银幕电影、七十毫米电影等变化。但我依然是想用标准规格的胶片，继续拍宽银幕不能拍的作品。特别是拍《秋刀鱼之味》时，这种想法尤为强烈，因此这部片子镜头数很多，大概超过一千吧。

大体说来，电影是以单纯拍摄像舞台那样的横向画面开始的。关于这个问题，昭和初期，我和山中贞雄、内田吐梦、伊藤大辅他们曾做过纵深画面的尝试。然而自从有了宽银幕，就总是要往横向扩展。我剩下的日子也没几年了，不想拍那种好像从邮箱投信口向外看似的电影。

所谓电影，我认为余味最重要。最近，似乎很多人觉得要有动辄就杀人、刺激强烈的剧情才是故事片。但那样的影片不是戏剧，是意外事件。我在想，是否可以不要意外事件，只以一种“是这样吗？”“是这样的”“就是这样的啊”的语气就把故事讲完满呢？当然电影的范围非常广，不论什么样的电影都可以有……

今后也想认真拍，无论如何一年一部吧——虽然多拍几部的话，晚酌也可以多来一瓶享受。关于下一部作品……我也是人，拍不了不一样的片子啊。松竹的女演员阵容很齐备，相当不错。比如岩下志麻，是十年才出一个的纯情型，符合松竹女星本应具有的气质。冈田茉莉子擅长稍带谐趣的角色，让她演那样的角色大概无人能出其右吧。

愿描绘泥中之莲

说到我的目标，我也并没有特别的方法，就是按我自己的方式去做而已——简单来说，大概就是顺其自然地拍摄吧。这是方法，若说到本质，我则不由得要稍作思考了。

例如，我希望让大多数人都能理解我在战后拍摄的东西，但这样说是否太厚颜无耻了呢……

总之，面对摄影机的时候，我时刻在考虑的根本的东西是要通过摄影机深入思考，还原人们本来丰富的爱……战后，风俗呀心理呀那些所谓战后派的东西或许与从前不同，但流淌在其深层的东西，若说是“人性”也许过于抽象，或许可以称为人类的融融温情。如何才能最完美地将这些体现在画面中，这是我时常考虑的问题，也是我想要做到的。

泥中之莲……这污泥是现实，莲花也是现实，污泥肮脏，莲花美丽，而这莲花的根仍然长在污泥之中……这种情况下，我认为有通过描绘泥土与莲根来表现莲花的方法，反之，也有通过描绘莲花来反映泥土与莲根的方法。

战后的社会的确藏污纳垢，杂乱不堪。肮脏的东西令我厌恶，但那是现实；与此同时，也有生命谦恭、美丽、纯洁地绽放着，这同样是现实。若不能看到这两个方面，很难称得上是创作者吧。不过，描绘方法有两种，就像我刚才举的泥中之莲的例子……

但这种时候，如果讴歌美化人情世界，就又成了怀旧或徘徊不前。这种单一的看法大概是战后的风俗，但我认为，真实并非只有一面。《晚春》《风中的牝鸡》，还有更早的《长屋绅士录》，我的系列电影是由上述理念支撑的……

在剧本糟糕、摄影机不行的恶劣环境中，如何才能表达丰富的内容？必须用心留意每一帧画面。我那“顽固较真”的别名大概就这么来的吧……
