亲爱的巴赫先生
“亨德尔和巴赫是同一时期的杰出音乐家，常常被放到一起比较。抛开音乐成就不谈，亨德尔开朗健谈，热爱交友，人脉关系广泛；巴赫则不善社交，严肃内敛得多。然而，亨德尔终生未婚，巴赫几任妻子，一共生了二十个孩子。”
大学我上过一门课，叫西方音乐史，这是老师讲过的一切知识里，我记得最清楚的一段。
巴赫居然生了二十个孩子？！
一起选修的朋友问我，这些你都早就知道了吧？你学过八年的大提琴。我没好意思摇头。
这是我自己主动选修的课程，却又非常抵触去听课，每一堂都是睡过去的。
我心里隐约清楚是为什么。
2012年末，我一个人去欧洲旅行，从柏林坐火车南下莱比锡、法兰克福、慕尼黑，然后离开德国去奥地利过新年，在那里乘飞机去了法国。有欧洲旅行经验的好朋友劝过我，原属东德的城市都比较严肃冷清，一个人去更冷清，不如把时间匀给慕尼黑或者巴黎，莱比锡就不要去了。
我说不行啊，不去柏林也要去莱比锡的，必须去的。
“必须”这两个字，七扭八歪地镌刻在一切有关大提琴的记忆上。我迫使自己去上不想上的课，绕道不感兴趣的城市，仿佛这是我和它保持联结的唯一方式。
我住在Kurt-Schumacher大街上，不知道是不是以德国政治家库尔特·舒马赫命名的街道。酒店距离中央车站很近，可以步行，只不过德国的街道基本都是面包石方砖铺成的，我跟着行李箱滑轮一起“咯哒咯哒咯哒”了十分钟，脑子都绞成了蛋糊。
还好莱比锡很小，有名的教堂和博物馆几乎都沿着同一条主街道分布，从酒店散步去巴赫博物馆，只需要十五分钟。
博物馆是座敦厚庄重的二层小楼，16世纪末的巴洛克建筑，有非常好看的鹅黄色外墙面，它的对面就是巴赫工作过近三十年的托马斯教堂。从一扇不大的门进去，左侧是售票的窗口，很像我们大学教务处的传达室，走廊右侧便通向博物馆。
出乎意料地小。馆内只有四五个联通的展厅，没有主灯，每个玻璃展柜旁都有暖橙色的小地灯或射灯，每个房间各有主题，我在讲他家庭的那个房间停留得最久，因为记得他有二十个孩子。
后来就站在一个陈设提琴的玻璃柜子前发呆。里面没有现代的大提琴。
博物馆里一直都只有我和一个白发苍苍的老太太，她比我来得早，比我看得认真。
可能因为我站得实在太久了，她走了过来，用口音非常重的英文问我是不是musician（音乐家）。这一次我非常诚实地摇了头。我告诉她，我学过八年的大提琴。我学会Cello这个词比apple还早。
她惊讶而赞许地瞪大眼，蓝色的瞳仁很天真。
“Till now？”
怎么可能呢。我最后一次练琴是十三岁。
最后一次琴课，我走出市歌剧院的大门，爸爸叹口气说，这么好的琴，可惜了。
“不可惜啊，”我开心得不行，“劈了烧柴啊。”
我妈妈开美容院的时候认识了一个来文眉的女士，带着刚上小学四年级的彬彬有礼的儿子。她说，孩子的气质要从小培养，我儿子是学古典乐的，大提琴，知道吧？不要去学二胡，凄凄惨惨的，也不要学古筝啊小提琴钢琴的，学的人太多了，竞争激烈，就学大提琴吧，我认识一个很好的老师。
“而且，现在考高中考大学的，乐器都有加分的，一加加几十分；就算孩子实在不是读书的料，也有一条后路，可以去读艺校，出来接着教学生。”
从修养情操到经济仕途，未来二十年都让这位女士规划完毕了。
