周勋初主编的这套《宋人轶事汇编（共5册）》收录人物二千多人，上起五代十国入宋而主要事迹在入宋以后者，下至入元而主要事迹在入元以前者。较近人丁传靖所编旧著，篇幅倍增，且网罗更为齐备。全书人物编排仿正史例，首列宋代诸帝及后妃、宗室、王子、公主，次列宋代各朝人物，大致以人物身份及其活动时代先后为序；末列不易确定具体时代者，则以所出资料之年代为序。全书以人为目，主要事迹依时间先后为序排列，年代不详者则大体按类编排。对所收资料，一事而涉及数人者，悉列于主要人物名下，其它人物处则酌情以参见法提示。

Book Abstract

一、宋代文治格局的形成

（一）宋太祖赵匡胤开啓了一代新风

前人普遍认爲，唐代之亡，出于三大祸害：宦官、朋党、藩镇。赵匡胤本爲一介武夫，深知拥兵称王的军阀之祸害，于是他先从消除藩镇这一祸根下手，然后一一解决其他难题。

赵匡胤的第一妙着就是所谓‘杯酒释兵权’。司马光《涑水记闻》卷一记此事曰：

上因晚朝，与故人石守信、王审琦等饮酒，酒酣，上屏左右谓曰：‘我非尔曹之力不得至此，念尔之德无有穷已。然爲天子亦大艰难，殊不若爲节度使之乐，吾今终夕未尝敢安枕而卧也。’守信等皆曰：‘何故？’上曰：‘是不难知之，居此位者，谁不欲爲之？’守信等皆惶恐起，顿首曰：‘陛下何爲出此言？今天命已定，谁敢复有异心？’上曰：‘不然。汝曹虽无心，其如汝麾下之人欲富贵者何！一旦以黄袍加汝之身，汝虽欲不爲，不可得也。’皆顿首涕泣曰：‘臣等愚不及此，唯陛下哀怜，指示以可生之涂。’上曰：‘人生如白驹之过隙。所谓好富贵者，不过欲多积金银，厚自娱乐，使子孙无贫乏耳。汝曹何不释去兵权，择便好田宅市之，爲子孙立永久之业；多置歌儿舞女，日饮酒相欢，以终其天年？君臣之间，两无猜嫌，上下相安，不亦善乎！’皆再拜谢曰：‘陛下念臣及此，所谓生死而肉骨也。’明日，皆称疾，请解军权。上许之，皆以散官就第，所以慰抚赐赉之甚厚，与结婚姻，更置易制者，使主亲军。

唐初朝廷崇尚武力，宰臣每用武将充当，出将入相，屡见史籍。其时边境上与其他民族的冲突不断，故自玄宗时起，即以节度使拥重兵防御镇守。安史之乱后，中央政权削弱，拥兵者乃演变成独霸一方的藩镇。这一批人既拥兵割据，一些得到军士拥护的长官又起而推翻原有的首领，即使有一些首领想拥护朝廷，也无法扭转局面。如魏博节度使田布意欲归附朝廷，终因无力扭转局势而自尽；陆长源任宣武节度使行军司马，欲以峻法绳束骄兵悍将，结果自身被杀，还险些殃及前去任职的韩愈。五代残唐，每一个王朝差不多都由部下起来推翻旧主子的后裔而自立新朝。赵匡胤深知如不改变这种局面，非但政权无法稳固，国家也无从安宁，因此他利用当时衆望所归的局势，既依靠掌兵的故旧夺得政权，又晓以利害，让他们不必再冒什麽风险便可坐享尊荣。就这样，赵匡胤轻巧地在餐饮之间清除了威胁权位的潜在敌手，将兵权牢牢控制于中央，从而扭转了时势发展的方向。日后宋主虽仍沿袭前朝旧规，将昔日的一些同伙分封外地任节度使，但是这些将领已无可能再闹割据，于是终赵宋一代，没有再次出现藩镇之祸。

赵匡胤还一改改朝换代时铲除其他割据地区君臣的常用手段，善待各地降王，约束派去攻城掠地的将领，不再烧杀抢掠。隋文帝杨坚史称贤君，但他攻下南方陈朝之后，竟将六朝金粉肆意毁坏，以爲藉此可以根除地方势力的抬头。宋太祖不然，攻取城市后尽力约束人爲的破坏，各地降王也常得到照顾而免除生命威胁，那些旧朝的臣子，很多仍在新朝任职，甚至那些旧朝的后裔，也可提笔记録前朝旧事。例如吴越王钱鏐的孙子钱易，撰有《南部新书》十卷；荆南高季兴的部属孙光宪，撰有《北梦琐言》三十卷；南唐旧臣郑文宝，撰有《南唐近事》一卷、《江表志》二卷。这些书中都爲唐宋之交的政局与文坛提供了不少珍贵的史料。
