一辆伦敦标志性的黑色出租车沿着老城区的小马路右侧迎面开来，停在路边，车上下来一位焦虑不安的老妇人，这就是本片的女主人公海伦娜。她手里拿着一张纸条，四下张望，她在寻找什么？她在寻找她所剩不多的未来人生，准确地说，她在寻找一位能预测她未来的占星家克里斯托·德尔乔诺。占星家克里斯托本人在全片中只有三场戏，加起来不足四分钟，这对于大约100分钟长度的影片来说，实在是一个很小的比例，但是克里斯托预言却像幽灵一般游荡在整部影片中，把所有人装进了她的水晶球。那么，克里斯托预言是如何影响着所有的人物和情节的呢？海伦娜初次拜访克里斯托时，这位女占星家谨慎地确认了付费方式后，立刻开始了她的预测。虽然是第一次见面，海伦娜的情况她却并不陌生，因为她们两人共享的一位按摩师加布里埃拉是个爱传闲话的人。所以占星家很清楚这位有着40年婚龄的海伦娜刚刚突然被比她更老的丈夫抛弃。那个人老心不老的艾尔菲健身健得过了头，误认为自己迎来了第二春，买了辆簇新的跑车，搬进豪华的单身公寓，美白了牙齿，晒黑了肤色，在金钱和伟哥的支持下，开始了冒险的爱情之旅。海伦娜精神崩溃了，一口气吞下40片安眠药。

从故事上来看，本片可分为三部分：A。克里斯托和她的预言；B。海伦娜和艾尔菲；C。萨利和罗伊。本片是从故事A开始的，而海伦娜是克里斯托预言的直接对象，所以A对B的影响是直接的、一目了然的。
海伦娜对克里斯托本人及她的预言都充满信任，但克里斯托所说的吉祥非但没有降临，丈夫的荒唐行为反而愈演愈烈——他竟然宣布要结婚了。海伦娜只得再去找克里斯托哭诉。
海伦娜：她是个女演员，只有他一半的年纪。（18：27）
