Book Abstract

如果有人说一部电影“写”得很好，那通常表示他很喜欢影片精妙的对白或是惊人的剧情反转。但是一个剧本要具备的可远远不止这些。我们为什么会喜欢一部电影？因为我们喜欢这部电影讲述的故事、故事的发展，以及发展的过程。很多时候，我们还会喜欢上片中的角色，即便有时我们并不一定“喜欢”他们，甚至不能理解他们。

如果一部电影在这些方面都做到位了，那都要归功于编剧，他们通常要花费几个月甚至好几年默默无闻的辛苦创作。剧本是每一部电影的基石，里面涵盖的不只是剧情和对话，还有故事结构、内部规则，以及角色的生活、动机还有可信度，另外还包括基调、主题等抽象内容。

剧本是导演和影片全体创作人员的主要参考点，从服装准备到片场设计，从照明方案到镜头角度，所有一切都要参考剧本。剧本写得越好，就越能帮助制作人员在银幕上打造一个引人入胜、真实可信的世界。

一个有可信度、细节度、特异性的剧本，能够让演员完全沉浸在角色当中，而不会对角色的动机和前后不一致的行为频频产生质疑，因为演员需要了解的角色信息全都写在剧本上。乔治·克鲁尼（George Clooney）曾对我说，他是在《蝙蝠侠与罗宾》（Batman & Robin）令他惨遭演艺生涯最大差评之后，才真正意识到剧本的重要性。他说从那时起，当他在决定是否参演某部新片时，首先考虑的一定是剧本。如他所言，接下来克鲁尼选择的三部电影分别是《战略高手》（Out of Sight）、《夺金三王》（Three Kings）和《逃狱三王》（O Brother， Where Art Thou?），正是这三部剧本出彩、制作精良的电影，让克鲁尼得以跻身颜值傲人、品味同样不俗的男星行列，并从一个电影明星，成长为一个真正的演员。至于这个故事给人的启迪，克鲁尼总结得很简单：“拿着一个好剧本拍出一部烂片，这种事情我见得多了，但是反过来你是做不到的。”

在二十世纪八九十年代，一系列的编剧培训班和编剧指南书籍不断涌现，介绍各种编剧“法则”。有些是基于经典的三幕式结构，搭配精准安插的“剧情点”（第一幕：铺垫；第二幕：冲突；第三幕：解决）；其他则基于由神话学家约瑟夫·坎贝尔（Joseph Campbell）普及的“英雄之旅”（hero’s quest）理论[ 源于约瑟夫·坎贝尔的代表作《千面英雄》，后成为影视制作行业的经典创作理论。——编者注]。不管个体编剧遵循哪种方法，当前的大部分好莱坞电影采用的都是最传统的叙事模式：故事向前的线性发展，每一起事件、每一次接触、每一个反转，都朝着一个结局头也不回地前进，做得好的话，这个结局一定既能令观众惊讶又感到满足。

根据这些原则，一个靠谱的剧本，应该以一个缓急有序的节奏讲述一个大体在意料之中的故事，并且在抵达预定的结局之前，串起所有常见的桥段，比如：男孩遇见女孩；男孩和女孩相恋；困难出现；男孩和女孩一起克服困难，最终走到一起。

套用著名编剧、导演比利·怀尔德的话：一个出类拔萃的剧本，应该要能掐住观众的咽喉，一刻都不松手。就这样掐着观众的脖子一直走，让他们别无选择，只有乖乖跟着。而每隔一段时间，这个剧本就应该释放足够的信息，让观众对接下来的故事发展保持好奇，永远不觉得出戏、无聊或者毫无头绪。

简单来说，剧本要能够回答每一个“影评人”观众必定会问自己的第一个问题：电影制作者到底想做一部怎样的电影？是一部充满动作元素、带观众逃离现实的奇观电影？还是一部充满动作元素、带领观众逃离现实，同时又反映现代生活的奇观电影？是一部深度讨论爱情转瞬即逝的文艺闷片？还是一部故事跌宕起伏的时尚爱情喜剧？每一部电影的灵感都源于剧本，如果电影创作团队有能力驾驭这个剧本，那么就能把创作者的想法——不管是一部高智商烧脑片，还是一部酷炫的娱乐片——彻底地展现出来。

每部电影都是一个生命，它有自己的类型DNA、基调特征、艺术追求和思想追求。要用一部后苏联时代的罗马尼亚家庭片的标准去衡量一部西部片自然有失公允，同样，你也不能指望一部主流娱乐大片去传递多么深刻的思想（虽然主流娱乐大片和深刻思想并非完全绝缘）。但是，我们还是可以理直气壮地要求这些电影做到有原创性、制作优良、构思精妙，而且不能刻意迎合观众，或向观众献媚。不管这些电影最终的目标是什么，所有的电影都遵循一套相同的语法：视觉语言、听觉语言，还有把这些视听语言连接起来的表演传统，或者是颠覆传统的创新突破。影评人的工作就是识别这些传统和创新，但不是为了在读者面前卖弄学识或者故作姿态，而是要为读者提供全新的解读途径，丰富他们的观影体验，或者至少让他们在阅读的过程中获得启发。
可是，那个问题依然摆在那里：成就一部“佳片”的元素有哪些？反之，造就一部“烂片”的元素又是哪些？为了回答这些问题，我在2009年推出了一系列文章，向读者传授我看电影时的分析和评价方法。这个名叫“如何看电影”的系列对电影制作的各个环节进行了探索，告诉普通电影观众在观影时要如何识别影片的流畅性，创作野心以及闪光点。在此期间，我重操老本行，采访了导演、编剧、剪辑等业内人士，了解他们的工作，以及他们希望观众如何去欣赏他们的作品。我们要如何判断一个剧本是否优秀？光有几句经典台词和一个令人震惊的结尾的剧本就是一个好剧本吗？我们怎么判断一部电影的剪辑是否优秀？电影摄影到底是什么？它又是如何影响观众的视觉和情感体验？银幕上的经典表演和舞台、电视上的表演有什么区别？
