Author Description

冰心，原名谢婉莹，福建长乐人，诗人：翻译家、儿童文学作家、社会活动家、散文家。1923年，冰心以优异的成绩取得美国威尔斯利女子大学的奖学金。出国留学前后，她开始陆续发表总名为《寄小读者》的通讯——中国儿童文学的奠基之作。其代表作有《繁星-春水》《寄小读者》《小橘灯》《再寄小读者》《三寄小读者》等。

Book Abstract

亲爱的小朋友们，我感到万分的荣幸和快乐，今天能有机会对全国的小朋友们，报告我们这次访问印度的经过。
我们这访印代表团，以丁西林副部长为首，包括其他三位团员，两位工作人员，是代表中国中印友好协会，接受印度印中友好协会的邀请，去参加印度全国印中友好协会的成立大会的。我们在去年，就是一九五三年的十一月廿七日，离开北京，在十二月八日到达印度的首都新德里。在十二月十一日参加了印中友好协会全国大会的开幕式以后，我们还访问了印度国内的十九个城市。我们北至新德里，南至马德拉斯，东至加尔各答，西至孟买，路程共有八千八百多公里。在印度旅行了五个星期之后，我们在今年，就是一九五四年的一月十二日，离开印度，返回祖国。
亲爱的小朋友们，我们在印度的五个星期，完全沉浸在印度人民的热烈的友情之中！每到一个机场，一个车站，远远地就看见旗帜飘扬，万头攒动，我们一下了飞机，下了火车，就被人海包围起来。千百对渴望的目光向我们射来，千百只热情的手向我们伸来；无数个美丽芬香的花环，重重叠叠地套在我们脖颈上，无数纷纷的花瓣像下雨一般洒在我们的头上。“中印友好万岁”、“和平万岁”、“中华人民共和国万岁”、“伟大的毛泽东万岁”的口号，像怒潮一般，在我们周围震响着。招待我们的印度朋友们，在万分拥挤之中，紧紧地手拉着手，替我们开出来一条路，一直护送我们出了车站，上了汽车，但是在站外的人山人海之中，汽车还是开不出去，连车门都关不上，因为车门外，车窗外，都伸进无数只友谊的手来，要同我们握手。
我们每到一个城市，除了在群众大会上，和广大的印度人民会见以外，我们还参加了地方政府教育界、文艺界、工商界、妇女界以及其他团体的招待会。
在新德里，我们拜会了印度总统、副总统和尼赫鲁总理。我们也应邀参加了尼赫鲁总理的餐会和外交部次长的酒会。有的时候，我们一天要赴六七个集会，我们虽然身体上有时觉得疲劳，但是精神上永远是兴奋的，因为印度人民对于中国人民的友情，太使人感动了！在群众大会上，人数最多的有三、四万人，最少也有千人以上。在开会以前的一两个钟头，万千的群众，就坐在广场上等待了。在我们丁西林团长和夏衍副团长的演讲和报告之后，听众们总是报以暴风雨般的掌声，喊起热烈的“中印友好”的口号。在每一个集会上，印度朋友们都给我们套上无数的花环，献上许多的礼品，还给我们表演了许许多多音乐、舞蹈、唱歌、朗诵的节目。在我们参观大大小小的学校的时候，那一学校的校长、老师和学生们，除了请我们演讲之外，还请我们参观校舍，学生们给我们表演体操、舞蹈、唱歌等等。在我们访问农村的时候，这农村里的男女老幼，都穿上节日的盛装，出来招待迎接，家家户户都用粉笔在台阶上画上祝福欢迎的图案，在门口挂上花花绿绿的欢迎的标语和旗帜。
亲爱的小朋友们，印度人民对中国人民的友情和热爱，是说不完的，我可以举许多动人的例子：有一次我们在一个农村里访问的时候，有一位七十多岁的老大爷，他的眼睛完全瞎了，但他还从人群里摸索着挤向前来，叫他怀里的三四岁的孙子，给我们递过一个橘子，作为献礼。还有一次在一个城市的群众大会上，有一位很瘦弱的老大娘，颤抖地挤到台前，流着眼泪送给我们一包用报纸包起的四块小烙饼。在我们坐火车旅行的时候，每经过一个小站，无论在白天，或是深夜，都常有人们从几十里外的地方赶来，争取停车的几分钟的短时间，和我们握手、拥抱，要我们向他们说几句短短的话。他们在车站上有时要等一两个钟头，只为着看我们一眼，挥着旗帜，喊着口号，跟火车走出多远，他们奔跑着给我们递上来一节甘蔗，或者一颗番石榴。这小小的礼物里，充满着友情和热爱。这些情况，常常使我们忍不住的流下了感动的眼泪。
