在每篇童话或故事后面，作者写了一点有关作品的写作和出版的背景，以及作者个人对有关作品的体会。作者引了有关作品的个别语句来作为我的“体会”的依据。这样做的目的是为帮助读者更好地理解安徒生有关作品的特点及其创作意图，同时也给儿童文学作家及儿童文学研究者提供一些参考。安徒生的童话虽然表面上是“为孩子们讲的故事”，但实际上也都适合成年人和老年人阅读。作者的这些“体会”自然也可以为他们作参考。

在《安徒生童话》现有的上百种文字译本中，叶译本被丹麦专家评价为：“只有中国的（叶君健）译本把他（安徒生）当作一位伟大作家和诗人来介绍给读者，保持了作者的诗情、幽默感和生动活泼的形象化语言，因而是一部高水平的译本。”
1988年，丹麦女王玛格丽特二世隆重授予叶君健“丹麦国旗勋章”；当年，安徒生也因为童话创作成就而获得“丹麦国旗勋章”——这开创了译者与作者因同一部作品而获得相同勋章的先例，叶老也因此成为一位因为翻译安徒生童话而获此殊荣的翻译大家。

Author Description

安徒生，全名汉斯·克里斯蒂安·安徒生（Hans Christian Andersen 1805~1875）生于奥登赛城，丹麦作家、诗人，被尊为现代童话之父、世界童话创始人。安徒生生前曾得到皇家的致敬，他的作品已经被译为150多种语言在全球陆续发行出版。知名的童话故事有《卖火柴的小女孩》《丑小鸭》《皇帝的新装》《拇指姑娘》等。他的童话故事还激发了大量电影，舞台剧，芭蕾舞剧以及电影动画的制作。

叶君健，是一位从丹麦文翻译并系统全面地介绍安徒生童话的翻译家。因翻译丹麦文版安徒生童话故事而享誉世界文坛。

1949年，旅居剑桥5年的叶君健回国，时任文化生活出版社总编辑巴金向他约稿。1953年，叶君健翻译的安徒生童话《没有画的画册》出版，以后各分册陆续与读者见面。1958年，叶君健又将《安徒生童话全集》所有译文校订一遍，共16册，于是有了中国版本的《安徒生童话全集》。1978年，这部童话全集再次修订出版。1997年，叶老在原译文的基础上，又一次重新进行了整理，成为现在奉献给读者的这套《安徒生童话全集》。

从前有一位王子，他想找一位公主结婚；但是她必须是一位真正的公主。所以他就走遍了全世界，想要寻到这样一位公主。可是无论他到什么地方，总是会碰到一些障碍。公主倒有的是，不过他没有办法断定她们究竟是不是真正的公主。她们总是有些地方不大对头。结果他只好回家来，心中很不快活，因为他是那么渴望着得到一位真正的公主。
有一天晚上，忽然下起了一阵可怕的暴风雨。天空在闪电，在打雷，还在下着大雨。这有点儿使人害怕！这时有人在敲着城门，老国王就走过去开门。
站在城门外的是一位公主。可是，天啊！经过了风吹雨打以后，她的样子是多么难看啊！水沿着她的头发和衣服向下面流，流进鞋尖，又从脚后跟流出来。她说她是一个真正的公主。
“这点我们马上就可以弄清楚。”老皇后心里想，可是她什么也没有说。她走进卧房，把所有的被褥都搬开，在床榻上放了一粒豌豆。然后她取出二十床垫子，把它们压在豌豆上；随后她又在这些垫子上放了二十床鸭绒被。
这位公主夜里就睡在这些东西上面。
早晨，大家问她昨晚睡得怎样。
“啊，不舒服极了！”公主说，“我差不多整夜没有合眼！天晓得我床上有个什么东西。有一粒很硬的东西硌着我，弄得我全身发青发紫。这真可怕！”
现在大家就看出来了，她是一位真正的公主，因为压在这二十床垫子和二十床鸭绒被下面的一粒豌豆，她居然还能感觉得出来。除了真正的公主以外，任何人都不会有这么嫩的皮肤的。
由此这位王子就选她为妻子了，因为现在他知道他得到了一位真正的公主。这粒豌豆因此也就送进了博物馆。如果没有人把它拿走的话，人们现在还可以在那儿看到它呢。
