《中国产业发展模式研究：以汽车零部件产业为例》：
同时，产业发展的内在动力也包括技术创新。产业系统所依赖的创新体系决定了产业内部的发展动力。创新体系推动了产业的发展过程。技术创新可分为流程创新和产品创新两种类型。产品创新是有意识的研究开发活动与科学进步所产生的，一般发生在创新过程的初期。产品创新时务必通过相应的流程创新。有学者认为，在创新的完整过程中，尤其是在其中一个产品创新被深深关注后，应该“通过对制造程序的周期性或者产品特性升级，来完成产业改进”。对个体企业来讲，技术创新既有可能导致企业由于不适应变化被淘汰出局，也可能会为它们提供新的进入产业的机会。企业引起优胜劣汰的产业发展表现为技术创新在这个过程中的作用。因而，技术创新被认为是环境条件改变和全部产业系统运动的搅拌器。这一基本动力因素主要是通过对组织战略和市场结构的影响而发挥用途的。
创新推动变迁的过程是什么呢？创新的产业技术带动产业发展的过程可理解成：局部制度创新—创新扩散—群体技术创新—个体企业技术创新—企业适者生存，不适应的被淘汰—产业成熟、产生、成长或者消亡。这个过程由个体发起并由群体推行，完成全部产业的发展和制度变迁。技术创新推动产业发展主要是通过制度从个体产业到群体产业，这是一个缓慢的并逐渐前进的过程。
只从技术创新来讲，它的组成是由下面的过程来实现的：开发与研究、创新扩散、技术创新、宏观调控和产业结构变动。每个过程都同时存在多种活动，比如实施、投入产出、决策管理、辅助支持和信息传输等。个体比较优势的产生是个体的企业技术创新行为导致的产业分工深化，这主要体现在信息、人力资源、知识等基础性要素的独占利益，从而生产率水平的差异性发生了，内生比较优势就被认为是这类差异优势。经济行为的主体通过对自然资源或者资本、劳动和土地等传统要素占有上的不同而形成，这属于外生比较优势。因此信息和知识等新型的基础性生产要素的差异是内生比较优势的主要来源，而企业个体的创新行为可以带来这类特殊的差别性优势。通过生产中特定专业知识的长期积攒累积而形成的生产率优势，也被认为是专业化优势。所以可以认为，专业化优势获得代表着分工的深化，而创新行为以获得某种专业化优势为目的。
