正如你看到的，在同一条需求曲线的不同位置，需求的价格弹性是不同的。弹性的变化范围可以被分为三个区间，区间是根据需求量对价格变动的反应程度的大小而区分的。如果需求量变动的百分比小于价格变动的百分比，则对应的需求价格弹性的绝对值应处在0和1.0之间。那么这段需求曲线就被称做无弹性的，也就是说需求量对于价格的变动相对不敏感。例如，图5－l当中a点和6点之间的需求价格弹性是0.5 ，所以这段需求曲线是无弹性的。如果需求量的变动百分比等于价格的变动百分比，求出的需求价格弹性就等于1.0，那么这段需求曲线就具有单位弹性。最后，如果需求量的变动百分比超过了价格的变动百分比，求出的需求价格弹性的绝对值就大于1.0，那么这段需求曲线就被称为是有弹性的。总结一下，如果需求的价格弹性的绝对值处在0～1.0之间，则它是无弹性的；如果等于1.0，则它是单位弹性的；如果大于1.0，则它是有弹性的。

Introduction

机械工业出版社的章编辑问我能否翻译美国康涅狄格大学的迈克易切恩教授著的《微观经济学》一书，并为中文版写个序言，我欣然应允。这主要是因为我觉得这本书挺特别的。事实上，目前市面上关于经济学入门的教材已经很多，为什么我们还要翻译并推广这样一本经济学的入门教材呢？
这让我想起十年前我刚到美国读博士时的事。客观上讲，当时国内经济学的教育水平与美国相比还是有一定差距的。但对大部分中国学生来说，学习上最大的挑战并不是数学上的推导，而是数学公式背后所隐含的经济学道理，更准确地说，是数学背后所要描述的真实世界以及对市场经济最基本的理解。举个例子来说，很多数理模型都会有完全竞争市场的假定，在这些假定下就会要求资源按照市场需求进行配置，从而实现要素市场和产品市场的出清。这些对美国学生来说，是那么自然，因为这与他们每天接触的东西是那么吻合，但对我们来说，很多理论假定理解起来就难免有“隔靴搔痒”的感觉，只能停留在书本上。这样，与美国学生相比，对经济学知识的理解，我们就已经慢了一拍，这不能不说是一种遗憾。
而面前这本迈克易切恩教授著的《微观经济学》一书却可以帮助我们今天的学生消除这种遗憾。全书深入浅出，从现实中提炼出理论问题，再用简单生动的语言解释经济学理论。读者会不知不觉地被它吸引，从中领会到市场经济运行的规律。我想，这也正是本书的精妙之处。全书分成六大部分，从生活中一些日常问题揭示的经济学道理写起，介绍了市场体系、市场结构、要素市场，以及市场失灵和公共政策的制定，最后再讨论开放经济下国际贸易政策和国际金融体系的构建。在我看来.全书真正做到图文并茂、寓乐于读，是一本经济学入门的好书。
本书的翻译工作是由我及我在北京大学国家发展研究院（中国经济研究中心）的学生徐晨馨、郑鑫、徐瀚、杨景、张钧、姜珊、沈波、黄子骥共同完成的。在此过程中，深感翻译这样一本图文并茂的教材并非易事。因时间较紧，难免会有错漏之处。如有发现，还请读者批评指正。
