Author Description

巴瑞·普瑞桑（Barry M. Prizant），哲学博士，言语-语言治疗师，世界著名的自闭症专家，布朗大学客座教授，具有四十余年的自闭症相关教学、研究和临床经验。他与同事合作开发了著名的"社会沟通、情绪调节、交往支持"干预模式，现在已经在美国和世界上其他十余个国家实施。他发表了120多篇论文，荣获2005年普林斯顿大学伊顿基金会自闭症研究终生荣誉奖、2014年美国言语-语言-听力学会荣誉奖。

Introduction

在本书中，我选择使用以人为主的用语，例如，“自闭症人士”“自闭症谱系人士”“自闭症儿童”和“自闭症成人”来代替“自闭症患者”，以避免用疾病名称来定义人的特性。“自闭症谱系”的提法在学术界很流行，所以我也会偶然使用。虽然如此，这些提法都不是完全令人满意的。这种语言用法上的考虑和选择，很费脑筋，而且咬文嚼字也会让文字显得笨拙，在此请允许我向读者预先致歉。

有时我会提及阿斯伯格症。美国精神医学会的《精神障碍诊断与统计手册》（DSM）多年来保留了这个诊断的亚型，直到最近的第5版（DSM-5），才取消了这个诊断。这个术语现在仍然广泛使用。具有正常甚至超常的智力和语言能力，同时又具有自闭症人群常见的社交障碍和其他障碍的人，会被称为阿斯伯格症人士。
对于那些不会或者尚未使用口语来交流的人，我会称之为“无口语”。常常有人说他们“无语言”，但是他们中的很多人会使用文字、手语、iPad等符号手段来完成人际沟通。
多数情况下，书中泛指自闭症“儿童”的时候，有关的论断也可以推广到青少年和成年人。对于没有自闭症的人群，我会使用“典型的”“典型发展的”“神经典型的”等词语。
英语对于所有的作者都提出了挑战，因为它没有中性的人称代词。我尝试轮流地替换使用男性和女性代词。当然，本书的所有论题既适用于男性也适用于女性。读者可能会注意到，书中讨论的案例多数是男性，因为自闭症男性是女性的4倍。这也就解释了为什么第10章讨论的长期追踪的4个案例都是男性青年。我也曾与女性儿童和青年自闭症人士一起工作，但是20年以来一直保持联系的案例，都是男性。
我在本书中声明的基本哲学、价值观念、临床技术，与“社会沟通、情绪调节、交往支持”模式（SCERTS，2006）完全一致。SCERTS模式是一个教育干预模式，我有幸与几位同事合作，从事其开发和研究。这个模式优先关注自闭症人士的社会沟通、情绪调节、交往支持三大领域。美国的学校系统，还有国际上12个以上的国家，都在使用SCERTS模式。有关材料请参考书末的介绍。
