第一章先秦时期我国方剂学
知识的出现
（远古-公元前221年）
我国先秦时期始于传说时代和有文字记载时期，下至春秋战国。这一时期传世的文献不多，只能根据现有的一些传世和出土文献，如马王堆出土医书《五十二病方》、《黄帝内经》，同时旁及先秦诸子文献，就中医治法、以及方剂处方用药、组方原则、制剂及其临床运用等方剂学知识，进行钩沉、梳理，从医学史的角度进行初步分析、整理和研究，以探讨中医方剂学的起源和萌芽。
第一节方剂的出现
医药起源可以上溯到人类出现之初。有研究发现，在一些动物身上存在着本能的医疗自救行为，人类作为万物之灵，自然也有这种本能。仅此一点，医史学界就有人认为，自从有了人类，就有了医药活动。
从现有的文字记载来看，多以传说时代的神农为最早。众所周知，神农与黄帝，并称为中华民族的祖先。同时，他还被尊为农业和医药的始祖。作为医药的始祖，因于“神农尝百草”的传说。《淮南子·修务训》说：“古者……时多疾病毒伤之害，于是神农乃始教民播种五谷……尝百草之滋味，水泉之甘苦，令民知所避就。当此之时，一日而遇七十毒”。这一文献一直作为最早记载药物学起源而被广为引征。到宋代，《重修政和经史证类备用本草》“嘉祐补注总叙”亦说：“《淮南子》云：神农尝百草之滋味，一日而七十毒，由是医方兴焉。”②此外《太平御览》、《路史》也有类似记载。事物的发展规律，一般是由简单到复杂，由低级到高级。因此在早期，人类总是先使用简单、初级的即单味药来治疗疾病，不可能一开始就有复杂的由多味药组成的方剂来治疗。所以，这里的“医方”不能理解成方剂，而应理解为用药医病的方法，则较为合理。当然，如果把单味药看作单方，那么可以肯定以这种单方为形式的方剂的确已经出现了。
