地图具有直观简明表现时间和空间的特点，能弥补文字之不足，增强学术作品的洞察力和影响力，在国外历史学界一向得到广泛应用。而在国外学术出版领域，历史地图集类著作是相当成熟的一个种类，如我国读者较为熟知的《泰晤士历史地图集》和《钱伯斯历史地图集》，就是其中的经典之作，其他地图加文字的通俗历史地图集著作也相当常见，国内亦有所引进。
但反观地图和历史地图集在我国本土的应用发展状况，不能不说存在着相当大的缺憾，“图说”作品虽多，“地图说”作品却很少，尤其是在世界史研究领域，可算是*为罕见，这样的空白状况，与世界史一级学科的地位不甚符合，不利于国内研究界与国际研究界的接轨。
本套“地图说史”丛书正抓住了这样一个空白点，力图将丰富的地图与简明的说明文字结合起来，尝试以文图对应的方式来叙述某段历史的来龙去脉，颇具创新意义。
华东师范大学历史学系建立于1951年，经过六十余年的发展，在世界史领域形成了具有自己特色的学术传统和教学风格，并建立了从本科到博士后、包括继续教育的历史学专业人才培养体系，其学术研究水平和人才培养质量在国内同类系科中均位于前列，有些研究方向进入国际学术研究的前沿。其中国际冷战史、美国史、非洲史、德国史、法国史、苏俄史等领域均有不俗的实力。

《地图上的德国史》（第二版）以六十多幅原创绘制地图加简短说明文字的形式，文图对应地讲述了德国从古至今的历史。古代日耳曼人与罗马人的攻防战、神圣罗马帝国的兴衰、哈布斯堡家族的扩张、马丁·路德的生平轨迹、普鲁士的崛起、俾斯麦的精妙外交体系、两次世界大战的蛛丝马迹……德国历史上种种风云际会，将在地图和文字的交融中，得到*直观、*简明的呈现，便于随时快速查阅，简明扼要理解。第二版在*一版的基础上，对文字和地图进行了修订。

Author Description

孟钟捷，上海华东师范大学历史系教授。目前国内德国史研究界的后起之秀，也是公共历史教育的大力推动者。主要从事20世纪世界史、德国现当代社会史和*球化历史教育的教学和研究。现为国际历史教育学会成员、中国德国史研究会理事。书中收录了六十多幅原创绘制矢量地图，所配文字也非常简明易懂，既适合历史教师教学辅助之用，也适合学生自学入门，是了解德国历史的必备入门书。

Book Abstract

后记
以地图的方式来反映德国历史的演进，既是一个好主意，也是一种巨大挑战。在中国书市上，有关德国历史的通史著作不少，唯独缺少一本使用方便的地图集。从这一点而言，当东方出版中心提出这一想法时，笔者甚是赞同。不过，在付诸实践时，一大堆问题便浮现出来，特别是德国历史的纷繁复杂性先天决定了地图绘制绝不是一件易事。再者，本书的定位是把历史与地图结合在一起，而且定位于雅俗共赏，这便对笔者的历史观、叙述能力与方位意识提出了考验。不管怎样，笔者还是愿意吃下“第一只螃蟹”，为德国历史走向公众略做绵薄之力。
本书是合作的产物。华东师范大学历史系的孟钟捷负责文字叙述与参考地图底本的挑选及翻译，复旦大学历史地理研究所的霍仁龙负责地图绘制。东方出版中心的责编欧阳敏十分尽心仔细地监督本书的写作过程，几位审读编辑提出了许多重要的修改建议，对他（她）们的辛勤工作，笔者在此致以真挚的谢意。
本书既是尝试之作，必定存在各种问题，恳请读者不吝赐教。
