刘邦的天才（节选）

《三国志·先主传》说刘备知人待士，有高祖之风英雄之器。这就不免让人好奇了：高祖之风是个什么风？汉高祖刘邦自己，又是怎么用人的呢？

按，《史记·高祖本纪》说刘邦：“仁而爱人，喜施，意豁如也。常有大度。”

虽然也说他“慢而侮人”，估计嘴上经常不干不净，但刘邦性格仗义宽厚、出手慷慨、大大咧咧，想必是没错的了。

也有人疑惑：刘邦运气真好，怎么起家之际，家乡沛县的贩夫走卒，县吏萧何、管监狱的曹参、赶车的夏侯婴、小贩灌婴、杀狗的樊哙、织帘子的周勃，个个在他手下神武天纵，打得天下英雄屁滚尿流呢？一个小县城云集了这么多天才，这是啥概率呢？

倒未必是刘邦运气好，而在于他确会用人。这不，先前在项羽手下不甚得志的韩信与陈平，到刘邦手下，都成就了不世功名嘛。

刘邦自己得天下后，曾摆酒饮宴，跟群臣总结过：连兵百万纵横天下，他不如韩信；转输军粮坐镇后方，他不如萧何；运筹帷幄决胜千里，他不如张良。总结自己的大优点，就是懂得用人，造就了这汉初三杰。这一点，韩信也是认可的，他曾说刘邦：陛下你不善带兵，带个十万兵就是极限了，我倒是带兵多多益善；但陛下你好在善于带将领，善于用人。

刘邦能开汉一朝，终究还在用人御下与权术。韩信从刘邦前，不过一个卫士；萧何从刘邦前，不过一县吏；张良从刘邦前，也没什么运筹帷幄的成绩；夏侯婴不过车夫；灌婴不过小贩。这些人得以出将入相，名垂后世，而且始终对刘邦死心塌地，刘邦自有他的法子。张良就承认过：刘邦的才能是天授，非人力所为。

众所周知，刘邦私下里，颇为傲慢无礼。没事就箕踞，伸着俩长腿。初次见郦生和英布时，都在慢悠悠洗脚，摆足了臭架子。这得多讨厌哪。

但就从洗脚说起。

刘邦对郦生这种老儒，前倨后恭，先是洗脚摆谱；听郦生说话有道理，赶紧起来穿衣穿鞋，给郦生谢罪，这就收了郦生的心。初见英布这匪类出身的枭雄，刘邦先是洗脚，折英布的傲气，再送宫室美人，让英布从低谷中窥见天堂，心情愉悦，这就摄了英布的魂。

对儒生，刘邦待以礼。对匪类，刘邦待以利益。真是对症下药，下得精准。

谈到利益，是刘邦最聪明的一点。太史公总结一句“喜施”，刘邦出手慷慨得很，这可是大优点。先前韩信初见刘邦时，便总结过：项羽待人仁厚，但不肯赏，把个印信摸来摸去，都摸旧了，还是不舍得给。您虽然勇悍仁义都不如项羽，但舍得封赏。

彭城兵败后，刘邦跟张良说话：关东之地我不要了，都拿去封赏人，谁能跟我一起干掉项羽？——于是开始对韩信、英布与彭越三位大将撒封赏。

韩信后来问刘邦讨封做假王，暂摄齐国。刘邦那个臭脾气，当即开骂；被张良和陈平踩了脚，立刻改口：大丈夫当王就要当真王，当什么假王！——于是封了韩信做齐王。

垓下之战前，韩信和彭越狮子大开口，跟刘邦开条件：要当楚王，要当梁王，刘邦虽然肉疼，依然抬手给了；英布的淮南王，那也是眼都不眨——至于之后兔死狗烹，把诸王都给干掉了，那是后话了。

当然，还不止如此。

……

可以想见，起兵初期，诸事草率，大家打到哪儿算哪儿，可刘邦依然没忘记录诸将功勋，好论功行赏。最后贩夫走卒、车夫屠夫，都积累功劳，成了西汉开国元勋。甚至后来项羽自尽，五人分夺其尸体——此事细想很猥琐——刘邦果真把五人分别封侯，也算是言出必践。

刘邦何以能得诸将死力？皆出于此。

刘邦自己说了是会用人；然而用人说到底，无非是排岗位、给权限、明赏罚罢了。设想你是樊哙，跟了一个老板，企业草创时，他就把作为屠夫的你的每一点成绩都记录下来，予以封赏，你又怎会不去努力磨炼武艺，成为天下猛将，好继续拼搏？

——这就是樊哙们在刘邦手下用尽死力的拼搏缘由了。至于刘邦对韩信们秋后算账，那是后话。至少西汉开国时异姓封王、平民封侯，自古及今，做得到的朝代，也并不算多。

刘邦逝世近半个世纪后，窦太后去跟汉景帝念叨，要他封皇后的大哥王信为侯，太尉周亚夫——他爸爸周勃当年是个织帘子奏哀乐的，跟着刘邦封到绛侯，还平定了吕后亲戚闹的乱子，保卫了汉朝正统；周亚夫自己则是硬生生靠战功起来的爷们儿——就义正词严，搬出了刘邦当年的训诫：“非刘姓不得王，非有功不得侯；不如约，天下共击之。”他说此话时，刘邦已故世多年，而汉景帝犹无从违背。可见西汉初，军功确实可以比贵族血统更重要。
