SaturnBird Coffee's Digital Boutique Series: An Overview
This set comes with 6 pods, ranging from light to dark+, a reusable coffee cup (with a plug to close it up!), instruction/information pamphlet in chinese (google translate app was my best friend, here), and a cup sleeve .
Each pod had a different underlying flavor/aftertaste. I chose the flavors for each drink based on the smell of the pod.
Pod #1, Light: Smelled of Dark Chocolate. I made a mocha. It tasted dark chocolatey, but with a very astringent citrusy aftertaste. 3/5 stars. It was okay, but I wouldn't specifically seek it out.
Pod #2, Light+: Smelled sort of floral. I made a lavender coconut drink. It tasted very bright, and somewhat astringent. A light flavor overall, with a floral aftertaste. 4/5 stars. Tasty, but definitely a summer drink.
Pod #3, Medium: Smelled herbal. I made a chocolate caramel drink, trying to play off the tea-like quality. It tasted sort of sour? And had that same herbal aftertaste. 2/5 stars. Might have gone better with fruity flavors. I'll try that next time.
Pod #4, Medium+: This one smelled a lot like folgers coffee, so I made my standard plant milk latte (coconut milk & agave), and that's just how it tasted- like my usual folgers plant milk iced latte. 4/5 stars. It's fine.
Pod #5, Dark: Smelled sort of like hot cocoa mix. I made a white chocolate mocha. It tasted like a tuxedo drink, which is cool because I only put one kind of chocolate in it, instead of the required 3 for tuxedo drink . 5/5 stars, would order pod 5 by itself.
Pod #6, Dark+: Smelled like a good quality caramel candy. I made a vanilla latte. It tasted almost exactly like Starbucks Dark Caramel nitro drink. 5/5 stars, would order pod 6 by the case, if I could.
I got another digital boutique set, so I will give the lower starred coffees another chance with different recipes, and re-evaluate later.
Overall score: 4.6/5 stars. Definitely worth the $.
