The Korean New Year is typically a family holiday. Tteokguk (soup with sliced rice cakes) is a traditional Korean food that is customarily eaten for the New Year. According to Korean age reckoning, the Korean New Year is similar to a birthday for Koreans, and eating tteokguk is part of the birthday celebration. Once a person has finished eating their tteokguk, they are one year older.

In Singapore, where the population remains predominantly Chinese, the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in China, is easily one of the largest and most vibrant festivals celebrated across the island.

Because of its large Chinese population, it comes as no surprise that the Chinese New Year is a major festival in Thailand. Chinese New Year in Bangkok brings one of the most exhilarating celebrations to Yaowarat, the Chinatown of Bangkok. The entire street comes to life with crowds of worshippers, exploding firecrackers, and dragon dancers.

In the Vietnamese language, to celebrate Tết is to ăn Tết, literally meaning "eat Tết", showing the importance of food in its celebration. Dried fruits and Chả giò (Vietnamese spring rolls) are served with a selection of savory dishes in Lunar New Year Celebration.
