郁达夫是我国现代文学史上的一位文学巨匠，我国现代著名的小说家、散文家和诗人。他的散文无一例外是“自我的表现”，而且是“自叙传”式的自我表现。他在散文中不加掩饰地表露他的身世、思想、感情、癖好，将自己的信仰、习惯、性格大白于天下，以一己的身世、感受，集中表现了在旧社会的压迫、窒息下青年一代的精神苦闷，从而形成了自己独树一帜的散文特色。

Author Description

郁达夫（1896年12月7日—1945年9月17日），名文，字达夫，出生于浙江富阳满洲弄（今达夫弄）的一个知识分子家庭，是一位为抗日救国而殉难的爱国主义作家。

中国现代著名小说家、散文家、诗人。代表作有《怀鲁迅》《沉沦》《故都的秋》《春风沉醉的晚上》《过去》《迟桂花》等。

不幸而为中国女子

江淮一带，以及两广闽浙，向来有溺女之陋习；唯其如此，所以白乐天的“不重生男重生女”一语，成为中国古今独绝的反语名诗。自孔子讥女子为难养以来，国破家亡，以及一切大小不幸的事件发生，就都推在女子的身上。唐人有“小怜玉体横陈夜，已报周师入晋阳”的绝句，因而弄得现在五省之亡，罪魁也必然地是翩翩的蝴蝶。字典里女字部的文字，坏字较好字为多，古今来的诗词文选，女流总列在卷末，与僧道同居。

革命成功，女权确立的今日，还是左一道命，右一条令地在取缔女子的奇装异服，禁止女子的赤足袒胸，理由总是坏乱风化；一若风化之维持，全须女子负责者。花柳药房的广告，化女子为蛇身，舞场营业的东家，以女子为诱鸟。这种情形，大约与男扮女装的小旦一样，当是中国唯一，世上无双的道地国粹。

谣言预言之类的诞生

谣言、预言等辈的养育处，第一就须在大家贫懒不做正经事情的地方。中国的谣言、预言，所以特多的原因，就因为中国的全部国民都是闲惰不做正经事情的缘故。从在上据高位者起，一直到都市乡村的游民乞丐为止，中国何尝有一个正经在拼命做事的人？谣言、预言的发生时期，总在大乱初平，或变乱继起之后；而酿成这些谣言、预言的重大酵素，当然是在当局者的专制压迫，与一般已被愚民政策驯服了的百姓的无智。

中国每当一次战争或大灾之后，总会有许多离奇不可思议的谣言与推背图、烧饼歌之类的预言印刷品出来。在危急多难之秋，谣言的发生，原是不得已的事情，一传两，两传三，先说是西京造反，后来就会变青菜冷饭，从一个字，变成十个字，或竟变成一件有头有尾的故事，也很容易。俄国郭果里的《巡按》，爱尔兰郭莱傲里夫人的《谣言的传布》两剧，就是这一面的传神实写。这原是不得已的事情。但在国民智识发达，社会根基巩固，统治者不是乱杀人乱压迫的地方，这种现象，究竟少些。至于预言呢，那更足以证明统治者的压迫言论的坏影响了。有识者早见到了社会破绽，但不敢明言直说，所以只好托之神意天启，造成幻妙的预言，以广流传，不是某处某地掘了一块碑，便是某村某镇出了一个怪。预言制造者，更以能利用国民弱点，了解刺激心理的人居大多数，是以预言的内容，总侧重在易朝换姓，人民大量死亡的各种事情之上。这倾向，从历史的、社会的、民族的诸观点研究起来，原可以成一部像TheGoldenBough一样的大著的东西，在此地，我只好简单地说，中国的预言之由来，所受的是道教的影响，其源出于河图洛书，降至近世，则统治者的压迫，国民的懒惰与无智，就是造成这些无稽之谈的炉灶。

在最近半个月中的情形之下，我倒很想起了两件事情：第一，杨树浦、闸北的橡胶厂爆炸，据说因为铁锅是日本货。但不知在爆炸之先，有没有人看见日本人进去放炸药。第二，长城倒，热河崩，不晓得有没有刘伯温的碑出来。
