Introduction

在中国古典文学的宝库中，诗歌作为起源最早、影响最广泛的一种文学体裁，无疑是最为耀眼的一颗明珠。唐诗、宋词和元曲，因其凝聚着无数先人对美的追求之心，饱含艺术的灵气，成为诗歌发展史上最辉煌的成就。
唐诗在经历了初唐、盛唐、中唐、晚唐四个时期的发展、变迁之后，已达到高度成熟的水平，诸体完备，名家辈出，诗作数量庞大。正因如此，才造成了在唐诗流传和推广的过程中，选本难以胜数且品质良莠不齐的现象。然而，在这些选本中，在中国民间流传最广、口碑最佳、影响最大的则要数蘅塘退士编选的《唐诗三百首》了。
《唐诗三百首》编成于清乾隆二十八年（1763年），编选者仅署名“蘅塘退士”，后经现代学者的考证，才确定为清人孙洙。孙洙，字临西，别号蘅塘退士，江苏无锡人。这本《唐诗三百首》是他和继室徐兰英经商讨后作为家塾课本所编选的，共选诗人七十七家，收录诗作三百一十余首。从所选的诗人和诗作来看，此书主要选取了盛唐和晚唐时期的著名诗人的代表作。从编排体例来看，此书按诗体分为五言古诗、七言古诗、五言律诗、七言律诗、五言绝句、七言绝句六大类，并单列乐府诗于每类之后，囊括了唐代诗歌的全部体裁。难怪古人用“熟读唐诗三百首，不会作诗也会吟”来盛赞此书之妙了。
“词”作为一种文学形式，起源于隋代，形成于唐代而盛行于宋代，故名曰“宋词”。据考证，流传至今的宋词不下两万首，有名可考的词作家也有一千四百三十余人，因此，宋词的断代选本甚多。上彊村民的《宋词三百首》则是这些选本中的佼佼者，对后世词作的发展有着深远的影响。
《宋词三百首》的编者上彊村民，本名朱孝臧，后改名祖谋，生于晚清咸丰年间，四十岁时潜心研究词学，遂成为近代词学宗师，与王鹏运、况周颐、郑文焯并称为“清季词学四大家”。《宋词三百首》是其晚年所编的一部力作。
《宋词三百首》于1924年初次刻印，共收词人八十七家，词作三百首。其中，收录柳永词十三首，晏几道词十八首，苏轼词十二首，周邦彦词二十三首，贺铸词十二首，姜夔词十六首，吴文英词二十四首。这七位词作家堪称宋代词人的代表人物，而书中所选词作亦是七人的代表作。除此之外，此书还收录了其余八十位名家的名作，可谓疏密兼收，不偏不颇，情辞并重。
元曲作为元代主要的文学形式，与唐诗、宋词并举，且对后世文学艺术特别是戏曲艺术的发展有着深远的影响。广义的元曲包括杂剧和散曲两种形式，其中杂剧属于戏剧，而散曲则属于诗歌。此处说的与唐诗、宋词并举的则是元散曲，简称“元曲”。元曲包括小令、带过曲和套数等形式。小令又叫“叶儿”，体制短小，通常是指一支独立的曲子（少数包含二三支曲子）；套数又称“散套”，由多支曲子组成，而且要求一韵到底。
元曲作为继唐诗、宋词后出现的新诗体，在继承了诗、词的一些形式外，又具有自己的独特之处，主要表现为：句式灵活多变，可根据内容突破规定曲牌的句数；语言风格口语化、散文化；曲子基调崇尚明快豁达、自然酣畅之美。
近代以来，随着元曲逐渐被人们所认知，各种元曲选本也日益增多。这些选本中，以著名词曲学家任中敏和著名戏剧史家卢前编选的《元曲三百首》最为权威。该书共收散曲三百余首，与清代蘅塘退士编选的《唐诗三百首》及词学大师上彊村民编选的《宋词三百首》三足鼎立，成为了解和欣赏唐诗、宋词、元曲的最佳途径。
