1998年3月，博伊斯、席勒和弗莱克斯纳律师事务所就维生素制造商的垄断价格提起了一起重要的反垄断诉讼。这起案件是长达一年之久的调查的最终结果，其过程更像一个侦探故事而不那么像一个法律调查项目。
维生素是人类健康的必需元素，数百万美国人每天都要吃维生素药片和胶囊。另外，大多数食物（以及大多数动物饲料）都含有丰富的维生素。实际上只有少数的跨国公司制造维生素，其他数百家销售维生素药片或者含有丰富维生素的食物（或饲料）的公司从这少数几家维生素制造商那里购买大量的维生素，然后重新包装，转售给消费者。
1997年2月底，我还在克劳瓦斯律师事务所上班，乔纳森·席勒曾经给我看过他揭露的有关瑞士制药巨头罗氏公司（Roche）的证据，这个世界上最大的维生素批量制造商似乎曾与其竞争对手商谈维生素的价格。虽然这件事本身并不一定是违法的，但是通常这种几家竞争者议定价格或者价格参数的前兆和议定价格或价格参数则是违法的。
