Author Description

安东尼·德·圣艾修伯里于1900年出生于法国里昂，1921-1923年在法国空军中服役，曾是后备飞行员，后来又成为民用航空驾驶员，参加了开辟法国—非洲—南美国际航线的工作，其间他带从事文学写作，作品有《南方邮件》（1930），《夜航》（1931）等。在美国期间，他继续从事写作，1940年发表了《战斗的飞行员》，1943年发表了《给一个人质的信》以及《小王子》。
1943年，在他的强烈要求下，他回到法国在北非的抗战基地阿尔及尔。他的上级考虑到他的身体和年龄状况，只同意他执行五次飞行任务，他却要求增加到八次。1944年7月31日上午，他出航执行第八次任务，从此再也没有回来，失踪时，年仅44岁。

我六岁的时候，在一本书上看到一幅扣人心弦的图画。那是一本描述原始森林的书，叫作《生命中的真实故事》，画的是一条蟒蛇正在吞食一只大野兽的情形。喏，就是这幅图。

书上这样写道：“蟒蛇连嚼都不嚼，就把捉到的动物囫囵吞下去，肚子撑得无法动弹，直到它们睡上六个月的长觉，把所有吃进去的食物消化完为止。”

从此，我对丛林的种种奇事产生了无穷无尽的遐想，于是我拿起彩色铅笔，勾勒了一幅画——我的一号作品，就是上面的这个样子。

我把这幅“杰作”拿给大人们看，还问他们有没有被这张画吓到。

他们却回答说：“一顶帽子有什么可怕的？”

我画的根本就不是帽子，而是一条蟒蛇正在消化它吃进去的大象呀！于是，我又画了一张蟒蛇内部的透视图，这样，大人们就可以看得懂了。唉，大人最麻烦了，老是需要我给他们解释。我的二号作品是像下面这个样子的。

大人们看过后，劝我别再画这些蟒蛇图了，不论是外观的还是透视的，要把心思放在好好念地理、历史、算术和文法上。这也就是为什么我在六岁时，就放弃成为画家这个美好职业的原因。我对一号作品和二号作品的失败感到沮丧。这些大人从来就不主动去了解任何事情，而对我们小孩儿来说，老是要跟他们再三解释，实在是太累了。

既然如此，我只好放弃画画，选择了另一个行业，学习驾驶飞机去了。现在，我已经飞遍了大半个地球。的确，地理学帮了我大忙，我一眼就可分辨出中国和美国亚利桑那州。如果夜航时迷了路，这样的本领很管用。

在这样的职业生涯里，我跟很多重要人物打过交道。我花了许多时间跟很多大人接触，也曾经很仔细地观察他们，但是，对他们的看法并没有多大的改变。

无论何时，每当我遇到一个看起来头脑清楚的人，我就会拿出一直保存着的一号作品给他看。我的确想知道他是否有足够的理解能力。可是，不论男女，看过之后都说：“这是一顶帽子。”

于是，我就不会再跟他说什么蟒蛇、原始雨林或星星了。我只会谈他能够理解的事，譬如桥牌、高尔夫球、政治，还有领带，等等。这样一来，这个人就会非常高兴，以为遇到了一个通情达理、善解人意的人。
