Author Description

圣埃克苏佩里（1900～1944），出生于法国里昂，1921～1923年在法国空军中服役，曾是后备飞行员，后来又成为民用航空驾驶员，参加了开辟法国－非洲－南美国际航线的工作，其间他还从事文学写作，作品有《南线班机》、《夜航》等。
1939年德国法西斯入侵法国，鉴于圣埃克苏佩里曾多次受伤，医生认为他不能再入伍参战。但他坚决要求参加抗德战争，被编入2/33空军侦察大队。1940年法国在战争中溃败，他所在的部队损失惨重，该部队被调往阿尔及尔。他随后复员，只身流亡美国。在美国期间，他继续从事写作，发表了《战斗飞行员》、《给一个人质的信》以及《小王子》。 1943年，在他的强烈要求下，他回到法国在北非的抗战基地阿尔及尔。上级老虑到他的身体和年龄状况，只同意他执行五次飞行任务，他出航执行第八次任务，从些再也没有回来，年仅44岁。
2010年是圣埃克苏佩里诞辰110周年之际，我们特推出此精装版，纪念这位伟大的法国飞行员与作者。

6岁时，我在一本描绘原始森林的书里看到一幅美妙的图画，书名叫《大自然的真实故事》。画的是一条巨蟒正在吞食一个庞然大物。下面便是这幅画的摹本。
书中写道：“巨蟒连嚼都不嚼，便将猎物囫囵吞了下去。尔后再也无法动弹。为了消化猎物，它们要睡上整整6个月。”
于是，我对丛林历险产生了无穷遐想。我用彩色铅笔练习一阵之后，成功画出了自己的第一幅画。我称它为我的“1号画作”。它是这样画的：
我将自己的杰作拿给大人们看，问他们是否被这幅画吓坏了。而他们却答道：“吓坏了？一顶帽子有什么可怕的呢？”
我画的不是一顶帽子，而是正在消化一头大象的巨蟒。我又画了一张，画的是巨蟒肚子里的情形，以便大人们能看清楚。他们总要别人把什么事都解释得明明白白。我的“2号画作”是这样的：
这一次，大人们的反应是，叫我把画有巨蟒的作品（无论肚皮打开还是没打开）放到一边，把心思放在学习地理、历史、算术和语法上。就这样，6岁那年，我放弃了当画家这个有可能成为我辉煌职业的梦想。1号画作和2号画作的先后碰壁，让我有些心灰意冷。大人们从没自个儿弄明白，孩子们总要向他们没完没了地解释，这可真累人。
从此，我选择了另一种职业，学会了驾驶飞机，几乎飞遍世界各地。地理学确实派上了大用场。在空中，我一眼就能将中国和美国的亚利桑那州区别开来。如果有人夜间迷失了方向，这种知识是很管用的。
我一生遇到过很多重要人物，也和大人一起生活过很长时间。我仔细观察过他们，然而并未极大改变我对他们的看法。
只要遇到他们当中某个我认为头脑清醒的人，我便拿出一直珍藏的1号画作给对方看，考考他是否真的看得懂。遗憾的是，无论对方是男是女，说的都是那句话：“不就是一顶帽子嘛。”
于是，我再也不和这种人说起巨蟒、原始森林或星星了。我只好迁就其智力，和他们谈论桥牌、高尔夫、政治、领带之类的话题。而大人们也为碰到我这样一个善解人意的家伙而喜形于色。
