这些年，因为爱茶的缘故，我陆续收集了为数不少的日本陶瓷器具，有些原本就是茶器，有日本茶道里被称为“一乐二荻三唐津”的黑乐茶碗，还有个人很喜欢的传统窑口的信乐和备前烧制的一些日常器具，常被我移用过来作为茶道器具和花器。我也很喜欢一些现代陶艺家的陶艺新作。无论是信乐、备前、常滑这些传统窑口的作品，还是很多陶艺家的现代陶艺作品，它们都有着一些相似的天然气质。

日本的陶瓷器具很多都带有这种气质，那种天然是结结实实的，如同山石、枯木、苍苔一般的自然拙朴，而有些施以化妆土的器皿带着特殊的纯净气质、朴实洗练的外形、合乎使用的功能以及丰富的肌理变化。但是这些似乎都是呈现于外的表象，在使用过程里，斑驳的痕迹又会渐渐笼罩在上面。我们耳熟能详的“wabisabi”这个美学风格，大概只属于呈现器物美的一种标识。一个小小的陶器，常常能引发我们内心深处的情感。朝花秋露般的刹那之美，带给人内心激荡之后，枯枝残花、水痕俨然，我们触摸和使用的过程，不恒常之中又有意无意地留下了一些经受打磨而屹立的部分。所以带有这样气质的器具特别让人心动，它结实得让人心有安放之处。

黑川雅之在《日本审美的八个意识》里，把日本的审美归结为“微、并、气、间、秘、素、假、破”。这八个字真令人击节赞叹，可以作为欣赏日本陶瓷器具在内的很多工艺之美的途径。而日用的器皿特别能表现这些细腻的审美观念。有一个粗朴的碗，深褐色的碗身上被非常快速地刷上一抹如同书法飞白效果的白色化妆土，术语叫“刷毛目”，整个碗形微微扭曲，在烧制的时候因为自然发生的变形，有着接近原始陶器的气息。它看起来流畅自由的外形下，精确的口沿处理恰巧是“微”的细节表现，而毛目刷痕流动的力量感又是“气”的最佳阐述，在碗的底足一侧的含蓄划痕是作者的签名，也透着“秘”的含义，整个碗因为烧窑造成的微微变形，正体现了“破”的意外美。

可是，这些美的观念被提炼出来之前，又是什么引发了手艺人的共识而能够让我们感受到这些美的隐约闪烁呢？人们常常能在手工艺上看到传统的流传，很多器形都是在日常使用的过程中经历漫长岁月淘洗下来的，甚至所用的材料、装饰纹样都是由制作过程中的偶然开始，逐渐变成特有的标准。这样一个惯性洪流潜移默化地影响着陶艺家，他们保持谦逊的姿态来面对材料和技艺，执着却又有很清晰的内在逻辑和内心表达，这个过程体味的不是自己的个性，而是建立人和物的关系，包括了制作者和物件以及使用者和物件的双重关系。

透过一个器皿所感受到的气质，其实是人和自然的关系，这是打动人的根本。和一些日本陶艺家接触就不难发现，他们基本上都有一种“万物始一”的思想。他们的意识里并非把自己当作一个创造者，而是借由个体的视角把自然传递出来。这样的想法反倒能够令他们很谦逊地面对自己的制作过程，无论材料的选择调配，还是在功能上精益求精，都力求朴素的“无心之美”，毫无造作之气。

在日本的传统手工艺里，常常有所谓“手感”的设计观念。所作之物拿在手里的触感、重量，都是制作时考量的重点，这大概是把身体和器物当作一体的时候才有的独特感受。如果说，特殊的视觉呈现也是一种“手感”的话，日本器具的外部呈现—材料、造型、装饰纹样引发的感受也具有和触觉一样的细微之处。如同柳宗悦在《工艺之道》里说的：谦逊和无我构成了成就器物的初始。对于喜爱陶瓷器具的人来说，大概都会依稀从日本陶瓷器具上看到传统的气息。即便是装饰很华丽的京烧瓷器，也都带有特别的温和谦逊姿态。柳宗悦的《工艺之道》让更多人有了共鸣，认为健康朴素的美才是真正的美。一方面，表现出来的技艺纯属不假思索；另一方面，对陶瓷的思考都凝聚到了制作人的生命思考里。思考人和自然的关系，会让人在日常制作的过程中体会到使用器物时毫不做作的用心和专注。首先是保留手工的感觉，很多日本器具都是手工制作的，留有让人备感亲切的手工的痕迹，但是这个痕迹又不是粗糙率性的，而是带有专注和精微的松弛。

书中介绍的10位日本陶艺家，日渐被国内的很多人熟悉，也许在你的案头上就有他们制作的一把壶、几个杯，或者在茶棚的角落里有一件花器、茶仓。手里摩挲这些不一定是“完美”的器物，却总有很多细节打动人心。从这些采访文字里，我们可以一窥其中究竟，也会有很多启发。透过这些带有“职人精神”的陶艺家的创作过程，我们能发现其实陶器都是陶艺家表达自我的一种途径，每个人对自然的感知和与之的连接方式、对所用材料的细腻感受和尊重、对使用者的温厚体贴，全都凝聚其中，由此衍生出来的丰富的“美”，朴实、自然、健康，那就是以物传心打动人的秘密。
