于是他们出去散步。他们走进树林，唱着最爱的歌，那首“熊越过山顶”。当他们唱完，一切又归于寂静，贝贝熊说：“嘘，听——我听见有人在唱歌。”他们都侧耳细听，细小的声音从森林的深处传来。“咱们去看看是谁在唱歌，”熊妈妈说。他们蹑手蹑脚地往前走，脚步轻得只有他们自己能听得见。不久，他们离声音越来越近，已经能很清晰地听见歌声了。一个哑哑的嗓音唱道：
今天我做饭，明天我烤面包，

Introduction

《培养快乐的孩子》在1980年以限量区域版本首发时，只是作为家有学龄前孩子的父母指南。那个版本的各种重印成为很多希望“培养快乐的孩子”的父母们的基础，这些父母相互协作，在周围邻里的家里组成了“快乐学校”，并轮流自己充当老师。
此后的15年里，大约有50 000多个家庭加入了这种以社区为基础的“快乐学校”，更多家庭开始在家里把这种快乐原则运用于子女教育。他们的建议和反馈成为我们这个课程的重要组成部分。
我们写这本书和启动TCJ（Teach（hildren Joy）子女教育体系的初衷是我们强烈反对当时社会上流行的观点，即认为一个孩子最需要的（或者他的父母能帮助他获得，并使他在今天的社会里获得成功）是高智商（IQ）。
幼龄孩童因为自身能力——诸如速算、拼字和应用技巧——而承受了太多压力。大家过于关注“我的孩子多早读书”或“听听他数数（或背诵）多棒啊！”。当然，这些能力确实很必要，但我们深信真正的快乐、满足和应对社会的能力更取决于孩子的快乐智商（Joy Quotient，JQ）。
