2006年12月，东东离开广州，开始了他一个人的间隔年之旅。旅途从犹豫不定开始，一切看起来是那么无法预料……

旅途结束，他找到了全新的未来、内心的平静和他的日本妻子。这个结尾，让人想起美国著名作家E.B.怀特的《吹小号的天鹅》：“自由给人感觉是那么了不起！爱情给人的感觉是那么好！”

10年过去，“间隔年”的概念已不新鲜，而作为当时“中国间隔年一人”走出去的东东如今也有了新的感悟：

对我而言，如果间隔年是一个梦，拉萨就是梦的起点；如果间隔年是一次长征，那拉萨也是长征的终点。

虽然我最终还是踏进了尼泊尔的国土，在那里丢失了护照，又一次和尼泊尔签证处官员打交道，碰到了许多老朋友和新朋友，更多的是中国朋友，也如愿以偿地找到了志愿者工作，而且一待就是三个月，不过间隔年终究不是旅行，更不是生活，而是人生的插曲，插曲动不动听要靠自己来谱写，但无论如何这一幕终将过去，我还是要回到当初离开的地方，因为当初的出行不是为了逃避而是为了更好地面对。

从原本计划的三个月到现在的13个月，从原来计划的两个国家到走了6个国家，我没有死去，还继续用心感悟这个世界，以“试一试、玩一玩”的义工概念开始，又怀着一颗感恩的心结束。

间隔年途中的点点滴滴都已成为生命的胎记，永存记忆。澳门大三巴的露天音乐会，曼谷No.1旅馆里失眠的美术，廊开的Nut和Pat一家人，在老挝万象食物中毒的晚上，在Xieng Kok失踪的美国青年，叶先生的面店，茵莱湖上的日落，从仰光飞往印度的机票，加尔各答的义工生活，送别沙弥香的瓦拉纳西火车站，Pushkar的沙尘暴，和野人逃票的火车车厢，Dharamsala的“上访”之路，巴基斯坦的风之谷，新藏线上的高原反应，转山，拉萨的库玉玛……一路上的寂寞、欢愉、苦痛和感悟，无不在潜移默化地改变着我，即使在看似主动的义工生活中，我能够帮助到的人何其有限，而我通过义工生活得到的精神收获却又是何其丰硕。

我想起加尔各答仁爱之家Salina修女的话：We don’t need your help，but you need to be here.我在帮助别人的时候，我想更多的是在慰藉自己的灵魂。

《圣经》说神就是爱。上帝，可能就是一个人类良善品质的代名词。我的间隔年，无论是旅行还是义工，都是一段在路上学习“爱”的征途，而回去了才是实践的开始。

2008年初，我结束了13个月的间隔年回国，在网络论坛以“迟到的间隔年”为题分享我的故事，不料“间隔年”这个概念竟因此传开了。在那个没有微博微信、网购尚未成为风潮、Wi-Fi并不随处可见的年头儿，竟然有出版社因为论坛的帖子来找我出书，惊喜之余我又多了一个分享故事的途径，多了一个所谓的“作家”头衔，之后更陆续有了“自由摄影师”、“杂志专栏撰稿人”，甚至“中国间隔年第一人”这样的名号，甚至有人开始称我为“老师”，被当作“知识分子”看待令我颇感惭愧，心里清楚我是徒有虚名。

走得比我远比我久、写字比我好、拍照比我靓的行者多的是，他们有些喜欢把故事藏在心底默默上路，有些人的帖子石沉大海、博客无人问津，而我，纯粹只是在刚好的时机做了刚好的事情得到了过分的宠爱而已。

这些年，“间隔年”的概念趁着互联网时代大行其道，各种充满青春文艺情怀的宣言口号鼓动着无数躁动的心，一时间不顾一切地上路流浪变得天经地义，正儿八经地工作反倒成了另类，貌似任何形式的出走都可以挂着“间隔年”的头衔而图得一时快感。一时间，只要你踏出门口，就是“间隔年”，它被传远传开，也有些变了味道。

“间隔年”的确有广义化的趋势，原本的参与对象是学生且为期一年，而现在非学生群体加入该行列，一年也不再是坚守不变的期限，间隔年的形式开始多样化。许多朋友摸索出不同的路子，探索出新的领域。选择变多，我们眼花缭乱无所适从，上路走了一圈回来大呼上当受骗：间隔年并不是想象中那么回事儿，既没有艳遇，也没有出版社青睐自己的书稿，更没有公司因为这段间隔年经历而在面试时对自己另眼相看。选择变多，懂得安排适合自己的间隔年反而变得更为重要。这些年收到不少小伙伴们向我倾诉困惑的邮件，许多人并非仅是回归后对culture shock（文化冲击）不适，而是根本没弄清楚自己要什么便上路。

有人说这些年间隔年的变味要归咎于媒体夸大了间隔年“功效”的误导，也有人说是我们自身对间隔年产生过大期望的误读，这些都无从追究，也不重要，但期待一次“到此一游”式的环球旅行就能够令人脱胎换骨、找回自我，并且专业技能极速提升从此工作安枕无忧——这种幻想的产生，也算是“间隔年”传播中的一大悲哀。

间隔年以旅行为载体，但它不只是旅行，否则它就没有存在的必要。间隔年与旅行度假最大的不同，是我们赋予了它一个“向上”的动机，不是为了逃避，而是为了更好地面对。这个动机又因人而异，有人为了提高专业技能，而有人希望重新审视自我，前者专业性强、文化性弱、自由性低，而后者自由度高、偏重于文化体验但专业技能性很弱。大部分人的间隔年可能介于两者之间，但间隔年行者都是揣着一个动机上路的。

一直都很羡慕那些简简单单游山玩水的朋友们，那是旅行应该有的样子，可间隔年不应该只是这样。

一直以来心里也都有个疙瘩，总会有些“自己的故事会让人误入歧途”的忧虑和愧疚，我的故事旨在分享而非博取崇拜让人追随复制，因为人生是不可复制的，间隔年也是如此。在间隔年呈广义化多样化的今天，100个人的间隔年会有100个故事、100种感悟、100个收获，每一个都是唯一的，我的间隔年也仅仅是众多故事中的一个，而你的故事则要由你自己来撰写。

间隔年是个好东西，虽然不是每个人都需要，但如果决定上路就要定好目标，无须模仿追随，走出自己的路，未来的你，就是你现在的偶像。

这么多年过去了，偶尔夜深人静望着躺在身旁熟睡的日本姑娘，回想自己的间隔年，感觉恍如隔世，方才惊觉时光飞逝！
