秦玉琪，山东大学国家糖工程技术研究中心，长期从事真核生物遗传学和功能基因组学的研究、特别侧重于真核生物转录调控的研究，对转录调控参与真核生物发育以及组蛋白修饰参与染色质重构具有深入研究。

Introduction

本书主要讲述真核生物基因的调控。基因表达塑造了细胞和组织的表型；无论在健康还是疾病研究领域，基因表达的调控几乎是所有生物学过程的基础。因此，不仅生物学家和生物化学家应该深入探索基因调控的原理，生物医药领域的学生也应该了解此研究领域，从而获得良好的专业学科基础。对转录因子及其活性改变过程的完整认知是现代生命科学研究的一个基本目标。对整个人类基因组序列（以及其他真核生物基因组序列）的利用，以及第二代测序技术的发展，已经明显改变了生物科学的几乎所有领域。例如，由DNA元件百科全书计划提供的基因组范围内的组蛋白修饰定位和转录因子结合位点定位的研究，极大地促进了我们对基因调控的理解。因此，本书着重定位于描述后基因组时代的基因调控。不同于Ben Lewin的《基因》一类的经典分子生物学书籍，本书的目的是将当前对基因表达调控机制的认知加以浓缩概述，汇聚精华。鉴于“一图胜千言”，本书中使用了大量的图示。本书的内容以2001年以来一直由C.Carlberg教授在东芬兰大学教授的课程“基因表达的调控机制”为基础，分为4大部分，13个章节。在总体介绍之后的三部分，分别从转录因子、染色质和非编码RNA的视角对基因调控加以概述。本书的内容适用于生命科学的硕士研究生，但同样适用于其他生物、医学学科的学生以及博士研究生。本书有以下四点目标，学生应该：1.对基因结构、染色质构成、转录因子以及它们的调控机制有深入理解。2.识别影响基因表达的主要成分、机制和过程，以及调控基因表达复杂性的多个层次。3.有能力分析转录因子、它们的共调控因子以及与它们表达相关的非编码RNA，以此来判断它们在真核生物基因表达调控中的影响。4.应用基因调控中的知识来设计、开展和分析实验，比如：定量PCR、微阵列和染色质免疫共沉淀。我们希望读者能够喜欢这本书，并对基因表达调控机制的研究产生浓厚的兴趣。
