Book Abstract

在适当的应用中，△-∑ADC的优点非常明显，但是它们确实存在缺点。其中最明显的就是有限的频率响应。频率响应是由输出数据率决定的。高的数据率会导致高的频率响应，但是会使有效分辨率降低。尽管△-∑转换器已经使电路设计师相当地接近要求的结果，但是使用包括基于微处理器的数字增益技术和基于模拟前端的模拟增益技术则还可以进一步提高分辨率（关于前端模拟增益可参考AB－107文档了解更多信息）。
使用微处理器对A／D转换器提供数字增益并不是新技术，并且，在△-∑转换器出现之前这种技术使得在转换过程中得到更高的分辨率成为可能，所以，回顾这个技术是合适的。
应用报告主要是阐述在使用△-∑转换器时，分辨率和数据率之间的折中设计问题。研究了它们之间的关系，并且采用了软硬件增益等技术。这些技术可以用来提高分辨率和数据率的总体性能。这个应用报告强调了软件增益的优势。
原始的△-∑A／D转换过程的基本概念是基于单比特量化器，而不是像用在分级比较和逐次逼近中的多比特结构。最初设计的△-∑A／D转换器前端具有大于1比特的分辨率，并且允许使用多比特方法的折中设计。

Introduction

做为TI中国大学计划部的技术工程师，我经常有机会到学校和老师同学们讨论交流。有一次，当我和几位同学谈到TI的DSP时，有一位同学很高兴地对我说，他用过很多TI的数字信号处理器，并列举了从C2000，C5000到C6000的多个型号，甚至包括最新的DaVinci，看来他对ARM也很在行。为了看看他对整个系统的理解能力怎么样，我问他，“你对模拟器件有什么看法？”不出我的意料，做为一位“固执的”DSP爱好者，他开始抨击模拟，并认为模拟将最终消失在我们的生活中，在他看来，C语言，操作系统，数字信号处理技术和各种高速数字接口才是电子界的最终方向。看他神采奕奕地论述着DSP在他的一个中频数字接收机中的巨大作用，我觉得有必要把他拉回到现实世界，于是我问到，“你的DSP是怎么供电的？被DSP处理的数字信号又是怎么得到的呢？”这个聪明的小伙子马上理解到我的意思：好像电源和数据转换器不能缺少吧？
其实和这位同学一样，我们都生活在一个数字信息飞速膨胀的时代里，从经典的密纹唱片到现在的MP3，从堆得满屋的录像带到现在薄薄的DVD，从磁带存储到机械硬盘再到固态硬盘，仿佛一切都能在被数字压缩、编码和传输。比如在我们每天都离不开的Internet上，信息是以0，1电平传递并处理的。的确，现在我们用模拟来进行计算和处理的场合越来越少，但我们仍要看到，现实世界还是模拟的，我们人体本身还是模拟的。在数字技术飞速发展的今天，模拟技术非但没有萎缩，相反在系统中占据到越来越关键的位置：比如为了让电池供电的产品待机时间更长，我们一直在想方设法提高电源供电的效率并降低系统的功耗；现代的数字信号处理技术使接收机越来越向天线端靠拢，这对我们的ADC和RF芯片的速度和灵敏度提出了越来越高的要求；而医学信号处理中为分析和处理细胞活动所产生的微弱电流信号，即使现代的超低噪声的运放和超高精度的ADC也显得力不从心。
数字技术在进步，模拟技术也在不断发展，如果我们在μV级电压信号的放大中仍然使用诸如μA741这类老旧的运放，我们很难获得想要的结果；如果我们需要在5V满量程输入的信号中获得100万个读数，ADC0809只能满足我们万分之一的需求；如果我们要从3.3V电压转换到2.5V，UA7805这类老式的线性稳压器将不能工作。我们需要更新在大学课堂上学到的经典模拟电路知识和相关的模拟器件，紧跟业界的先进技术，利用一些高性能模拟器件来优化我们的设计。
