1.什么是局域网
所谓局域网，或称局域网络（Local Area Networks，LAN），是指将某一相对狭小区域内的计算机，使用特定的通信协议并按照某种网络结构相互连接起来而形成的计算机集合。在该集合中的计算机之间，可以实现彼此的数据通信、文件传递和资源共享。
将一间办公室或某个家庭中的几台计算机互相连接起来向组成的网络，是局域网；将一个计算机房或网吧内的几十台计算机互相连接而组成的网络，也是局域网；将一栋几层、十几层甚至几十层办公楼的上百台甚至上千台的计算机互相连接而组成的网络，还是局域网。
推而广之，将一所学校或一家有限责任公司十几栋、几十栋楼房或建筑中的所有计算机都互相连接起来而组成的网络，同样也还是局域网。所以，这里所谓的“狭小”，其实只是一个相对的概念，正如同地球相对于太阳的小，或者太阳相对于银河系的小，而并非是指绝对狭小的区域。小到几十平米甚至于十几平米的、彼此能看得清对办面孔的空间范围自然是小，但占地十几亩，甚至上百亩的校园和厂区也不能说是大。因此，所谓局域网，其实是指棚瓦连接的计算机相对集中于同一区域，而且这些计算机往往部属于同一个部门或某一个单位管辖。
