通信机房动力系统是整个通信网络设备的重要组成部分，紧紧伴随着通信技术的每一次发展，为通信设备和业务提供必不可少的支撑。一般通信局（站）都包含交换、传输、数据、移动等设备，确保这些设备正常运行的一个很重要的条件就是通信电源设备应能正常供电。通信机房动力系统可以说是通信网络的“心脏”，是实现全程全网畅通的根本保障，其供电质量与可靠性极大地影响着电信设备和通信网络的运行状态。动力供电质量的好坏，直接关系到整个通信网的畅通。动力设备维护工作的任务就是确保动力供电系统安全平稳运行，为通信设备的正常运行提供强有力的支撑。通信机房动力系统经过很长一段时期的发展，至今逐渐形成了通信行业发展的一个分支，并成为其重要组成部分，成为通信网络基础保障不容忽视的最重要专业领域之一。随着当前大量大型IDC基地的建设项目的实施，对通信机房动力系统的设计工作提出了很高的要求。
运营商传统的动力维护模式，由于采用不具备自动启动的油机、开口式防酸隔爆铅酸蓄电池、相控整流电源，因此需要大量的人员驻守机房，通过人工看守和操作的方式进行动力设备维护。自20世纪90年代起，中国电信业经历分营、剥离、重组和深化改革之后，电信市场已经打破了过去的垄断经营，形成了强力竞争态势。中国电信业经过十几年的快速发展，网络规模已跃居世界首位。作为通信网络基础配套设施的通信电源也随着网络规模的扩大和技术的进步取得了极大的发展：采用智能化、自动化程度较高的柴油发电机组，具有自动倒换功能的低压配电系统；采用免维式阀控式密封蓄电池，性能稳定的高频开关电源。设备的进步也为动力维护的转型提供了必要条件，特别是动力环境系统的应用，使运营商动力维护向先进高效的、人力成本更节约的集中监控、集中维护、集中管理，即“三集中”方式转型。

全书共有六章，第1～3章介绍通信机房动力知识，并列举各类通信机房动力系统构成及设计关键事项，从动力系统发展演进的视角阐述其建设、维护管理所面临的挑战；第4章引入移动互联网时代的智慧运维变革思路及实践经验，为智慧动力运营提供思路指导；第5、6章则详细剖析通信网动力维护管理的变革思路，提供可行的智慧动力运营变革途径及主要做法，并通过实际应用案例说明其可行性和取得的效果。
本书参考了中国联通动力专业培训教材、维护规程，中讯邮电咨询设计院有限公司、华信咨询设计研究院有限公司的动力专业相关材料，在参考的大量文献资料中，有明确出处的在参考文献中一一列出，有些难以查明出处的，如设备厂家相关培训资料、某些互联网资料，未能明确列出，在此对这些书籍和资料的作者表示最诚挚的谢意。
中国联通广东分公司教授级高工王保华、山东科技大学王卓鹏教授对本书初稿进行了全面审阅，并提出了许多宝贵建议，薛星刚、王朝萍、付岚、罗绵辉、周锦伟、连凯参加了本书相关内容编写，在此对他们的辛勤劳动表示衷心的感谢！
