郑克鲁，教授，1939年生，曾任武汉大学法语系主任兼法国问题研究所所长，上海师范大学中文系系主任、博士生导师、博士后流动站负责人、国家重点学科“比较文学与世界文学”学科点负责人、上海师范大学图书馆馆长，武汉作家协会理事、上海作家协会理事、上海图书馆协会理事、中国外国文学学会理事，中国比较文学学会上海分会副会长、上海翻译家协会副会长、中国法国研究会副会长、中国法国文学研究会副会长。1958年开始发表作品，1984年加入中国作家协会，1987年获法国政府颁发的文化教育一级勋章，2012年获傅雷翻译出版奖，并获中国社会科学院、教育部的多个奖项和上海市社会科学有限成果奖。主要著作有《法国文学史》《法国诗歌史》《现代法国小说史》《法国文学纵横谈》等。主要译作有《红与黑》《高老头》《欧仁妮·葛朗台》《巴尔扎克中短篇小说选》《悲惨世界》《雨果散文选》《基度山恩仇记》《茶花女》《莫泊桑中短篇小说精选》《波德莱尔诗歌精选》《蒂博一家》《罗曼·罗兰读书随笔》《八十天环游地球》《小王子》《第二性》等。主编作品有《外国文学史》《外国文学简史》《外国文学作品选》《20世纪外国文学史》《20世纪欧美文学史》《新编外国现代派作品选》等。

《高老头》：
高里奥先生和德·朗贝梅斯尼夫人之间发生的事，甚至使伯爵夫人不愿再同他一起相处。第二天她就走了，忘记付清六个月的食宿费，留下的破衣服估计值五法郎。无论沃盖太太花多大力气寻找，她在巴黎还是得不到有关伯爵夫人的任何信息。她时常提起这件倒霉事，埋怨自己过于轻信，虽然她比一只母猫还要多疑。但她跟许多人相似，他们不相信自己的亲人，却相信遇到的第一个人。这种精神上的事例，虽然古怪，却很真实，很容易在人的心中找到根源。也许有些人在共同生活的人身上再也得不到什么，向他们暴露了自己心灵的空虚以后，暗暗感到要受他们严厉的评判。可是，这些人得不到恭维，却又感到压抑不住的需要，或者渴望具有自身缺乏的优点，希望获得与格格不入的人的心或尊敬，哪怕有朝一日要统统失去。总之，有一种人天生唯利是图，决不对朋友或亲人做好事，因为他们本应这样行事。

在感情圈子同他们越亲近的人，他们越不爱；离得越远，他们越乐于效劳。沃盖太太无疑属于这两类基本上都是庸俗、虚伪、可憎的性格。

她的仇恨并非南于爱情，而是出于希望幻灭。如果人心在攀登感情的高峰时找到了休息，它很少会停留在仇恨的陡坡上。但是高里奥先生是她的房客，寡妇不得不压抑住受伤的自尊心，不爆发出来，把失望引起的长吁短叹掩埋起来，像一个修士受了修道院长的窝囊气，也只能强压下复仇的愿望。卑劣小人总是以不断的卑劣行为满足自己善与恶的感情。寡妇以女人的狡猾，暗中想出一些折磨受害者的伎俩。她先是取消引进公寓的多余菜肴。
“别再弄醋渍小黄瓜，别再弄鱼，都是骗人的玩意儿！”她在恢复原来早上的那一套，这样对西尔薇说。
高里奥先生是一个淡泊的人，正如靠节省发财致富的人倒也变成了习惯那样。汤、粥、一盆蔬菜，一向是，而且总应是他最喜欢的晚餐。因此，沃盖太太很难折磨他的房客，她无法违拗他的口味。遇到一个无懈可击的人，她无可奈何，于是开始瞧不起他，并让其他房客分担她对高里奥的怨恨；他们出于消遣，帮着她报仇。
