Tatsuhiko Shibusawa 1928—1987
日本现代作家、评论家。对三岛由纪夫、寺山修司等人影响甚深的“暗黑美学大师”。
他致力于将西方社会中的文化与思想暗流介绍给日本学界。从 20 世纪 50 年代起研究法国文学，并集中向日本读者引介萨德侯爵、巴塔耶、阿尔托等异色作家的作品，轰动一时。
同时，他也深入宗教、民俗、文学、艺术等领域，写出了大批充满暗黑色彩的幻想文学作品，成为日本杰出的幻想文学先锋。
一生译作、著作无数，其中《唐草物语》于 1981 年获得第九届泉镜花文学奖、遗作《高丘亲王航海记》于 1988 年获得第三十九届读卖文学奖。

迷宫与日晷（节选）
以下内容引自《博物志》第三十六卷第十九章。
“我们也来说一说迷宫。这种令人惊异的建筑中凝聚了人类所有的智慧与才能，即便说它不是现实之物，也能轻易令人信服。如今在埃及的埃拉克雷奥波利斯还残存着这样的建筑，相传是由佩特斯克法老或提托伊法老始建于三千五百年前。不过根据希罗多德的说法，主持兴建的法老有十二位，最后一位是普萨美提克。关于埃及人建造迷宫的目的众说纷纭，德摩特尔认为这是莫特利斯法老的王宫，利克亚斯则认为这是莫伊利斯法老的陵墓，但许多说法表示这是用来祭祀太阳神的建筑，这也是更加广为流传的说法。无论埃及人的目的为何，代达洛斯在克里特岛建的迷宫一定是以埃及迷宫为原型的，这一点毫无疑问。只是代达洛斯的迷宫将其缩小到百分之一，并在当中设置了无数蜿蜒回转的通路和走廊，让人迷失其中无法逃脱。这迷宫并不是画在大理石地面或是小孩子在战神广场上玩耍的那种让人在有限的表面上来回绕圈子的螺旋旋涡，它会让人在穿过许多扇门后便不知身在何处，总会回到之前走过的地方。这座克里特岛的迷宫是继埃及迷宫之后的第二大迷宫。第三大迷宫位于利姆诺斯岛，第四大迷宫则位于意大利，它们都有岩石打磨成的圆顶覆于其上。令人吃惊的是，埃及迷宫的入口和圆柱都由帕罗斯岛产的大理石制成，其他部分则由正长岩制成。”
通常一提到迷宫，我们立刻会想到代达洛斯在克里特岛建造的克诺索斯宫，但正如普林尼在文中所述，古代的迷宫并不只有克里特岛的迷宫，最古老的迷宫位于埃及，而且利姆诺斯岛和古罗马的意大利行省也有类似的建筑。
最早记述埃及迷宫的人是希罗多德，普林尼也提到了这个名字。希罗多德自称亲眼见过那座迷宫，按照他在《历史》第二卷第一百四十八章中的描述，那座迷宫“位于莫伊利斯湖的偏南方，与一个被称为鳄鱼城的地方在同一条线上”。希腊人称作“鳄鱼城”的地方是哈瓦拉，也就是现在的法尤姆。希罗多德见到的迷宫，其实是一座神殿，埋葬着埃及第十二王朝的第六代法老阿蒙尼姆赫特三世。出现在普林尼文中的“莫伊利斯法老的陵墓”，那个莫伊利斯法老指的就是阿蒙尼姆赫特三世。距今约四千年前的辉煌迷宫，如今已一片荒凉，只留下黄沙中的几处残柱。
关于这恢宏庞大的迷宫的构造，不仅是普林尼，斯特拉波和西西里的狄奥多罗斯也都各自留下了一些简单的记录。不管怎么说，我觉得自称亲眼见过其物的希罗多德的记述最有意思，也最靠谱。我们摘取一段来看看……

后记
我与普林尼打交道的时间已有很长。至今写过了许多书，总喜欢引用普林尼的句子。写于几年前的《唐草物语》中有一篇题为《死于火山》的短篇小说，主人公就是公元七九年八月二十四日，意外遭遇维苏威火山大喷发而死的普林尼。对自然充满热爱的普林尼之死是我非常喜欢的一种人生结局，如果可以，我也希望这样死去。最近才觉得，这归根结底只是一个无法实现的愿望。
这些暂且不说，随性阅读这位古代博物学家的庞大著作，并附上同样随性的评论，这是我的心血来潮。这心血来潮最终也不过是一时冲动，只写了些模棱两可的文章。毕竟是一部包罗宇宙万物的博物志，其主题是无穷无限的，本书以第二十二章“象”作，主要是因为我这抱恙的身体。这本书最后写到哪里结束都无所谓，因为，这是“我的普林尼”，这是我最初的任性想法。
写这本书时使用的参考书是对照拉丁语原文翻译的法语译本和英语译本，法语译本由 Les Belles Lettres 出版社出版，英语译本则来自洛布古典丛书。这大概是所有阅读普林尼著作的人都会使用的参考书，可以说是当今最为流行的版本了。
本书内容曾在一九八五年一月至一九八六年十月，连载于青土社的杂志《Eureka》，共计二十二期。这也是我继《恶魔出没的文学史》《胡桃中的世界》《龙国绮谭集》之后，第四次在《Eureka》连载。在此向创刊号以来合作至今的清水康雄先生以及青土社的各位致以衷心的感谢。
