前言物理世界与数字世界有机相联
本书的初衷并非构建一种全新的物联网（Internet of Things，IoT）架构，
而是探索如何在机器社交网络中更好地发挥控制与协调机制，使其符合梅
特卡夫定律的网络技术发展趋势。随着机器到机器（Machine-to-Machine，
M2M）互联浪潮的逼近，巨大的信息化认知流的冲击也将如期而至。
试想如果能让机器社交网络（由各种传感器和不计其数的其他相关设
备组建而成）摆脱人为干预，我们就完全有可能去创建一个高度自治的机
器化社区，只需要适时与之进行交互即可。
物联网时代的到来，使得终端设备日益剧增，传统解决思路是进一步
扩展网络地址空间容量（例如 IPv6 技术①），然而这种在 20 世纪 70 年代
形成的主机到主机（Host-to-Host）互联协议，从根本上限制了物联网优
势的发挥。近年来，物联网应用的发展速度惊人，一些廉价设备、哑设备
（指非传统 IP 设备）以及更为多样化的设备迫切需要进行互联互通，而
传统的组网理念由于众多因素将难堪此任。
首先，IPv6 的确能为每一个设备分配唯一的地址，然而数量巨大的
各种电器、传感器以及执行器却难以承载臃肿的 IP 协议栈，毕竟它们自
身的处理器、内存和带宽资源极为有限。其中最浅显的道理就是，如果仅
仅为了实现主机到主机通信，我们让一个简易传感器承担复杂的协议开
销，显然是不够经济的。
其次，传统的 IP 协议组网意味着需要获取设备制造信息，假如缺少
集中授权 MAC 地址和相应的端到端管理，IP 协议将完全失效。然而，全
世界如此众多的设备商正在制造着五花八门的产品（如湿敏元件、路灯、
烤箱等），不难想象，利用传统方式形成的传统网络技术显然是行不通的。
再次，物联网的数据需求与传统互联网完全不同。绝大多数通信来源
于简洁的 M2M 信息交互，这是一种非对称式的通信方式，其在某一链路
方向上（如传感器到服务器）的数据流远远超过其他链路。通常，即便是
因中断或噪声连接导致偶尔的丢包现象，也不会造成严重影响。在这一点
上，传统互联网则完全不同，毕竟其提供的主要是直接面向用户的服务，
数据丢包显然是难以容忍的。而物联网针对大部分业务流需要进行时变特
性分析，并非瞬态业务执行，而且终端设备具有高度自治能力，无论其是
否处于被“监听”状态，都不会影响设备的运行。
然而，当物联网产生实时感知与响应的业务需求时，传统网络的往返
控制环架构也会造成很多不确定因素。一种有效的策略是构建相对独立的
本地控制环，它既能管理对应电器、传感器以及执行器之间的“交易”，
同时又能接收来自核心服务器的“建议和指令”。
最后，也是最为关键的一个因素，传统的 IP 对等网络（Peer-to-Peer，
P2P）架构可能会将物联网中的众多潜在资源拒之门外。面对物联网中存
在的巨大的不可预知或偶发性数据流，只有通过“发布 / 订阅”架构才
能更好地挖掘感兴趣的信息流以及它们之间的关系，也只有通过这种“发
布 / 订阅”网络才能更好地适应未来大规模的物联网需求。
世界上只有自然体系能真正与物联网规模相媲美，例如花粉传播、蚁
群、红杉等。受这些自然系统的启发，本书提出了一种三层物联网架构，
即简易终端设备、专用组网转发节点和信息检索汇聚单元。通过本书的阅
读，读者将会发现精简的自分类信息、隔离组网开销的专用设备层，以及
“发布 / 订阅”机制将能成为充分发挥物联网潜能的有效途径。
