Book Abstract

1939年至1944年，埃里克森主持加利福尼亚大学纵向课题“儿童指导研究”，研究成果包括三个方面：（1）儿童游戏结构中的性别差异；（2）人的生命周期中各个阶段冲突的解决；（3）关于儿童发展问题的人类文化学的追踪调查。
1960年他出任哈佛大学人类发展学教授，这个工作一直持续到其1970年退休。
二、社会性发展的阶段理论
埃里克森认为，人的一生整个心理发展过程可分为八个阶段，这里介绍学前儿童时期的三个阶段。
（一）信任对不信任
儿童从出生到1岁，相当于弗洛伊德理论中的口欲阶段。这个阶段儿童心理社会方面的心理危机是信任对不信任。在周岁前的儿童完全处于无助状态，其生活上的一切需求完全依赖于成人的帮助才能得以满足。
在需求与得到满足的过程中，儿童和成人之间开始建立了人际关系。如果父母给这一时期儿童以爱抚和有规律的照料，儿童将会产生信任的情感。反之，如果父母对儿童照料像孩子的脸一日三变的话，他们将会产生不信任情感。
（二）自主行动对羞怯怀疑
儿童从1岁到3岁之间，个体表现出的危机是自主行动对羞怯怀疑。这一阶段，儿童学会了走、爬、推、拉、谈话等活动，也学会了抓握及放开。此阶段，儿童不但对周围的事物好奇、感兴趣，而且也喜欢自己动手做事情，不要求大人帮助。
如果在这个阶段父母在孩子安全不受威胁的情况下，让其自主完成他想要做的照顾自己的事，不过多地干涉孩子的行为，只是在孩子有困难时给予帮助、完成时给予鼓励。这样的话，孩子将获得独立自主的经验，遇事不依赖别人。反之，如果父母认为孩子还小，不能独立地完成各种事情，于是处处限制孩子，遇到其可以自己处理的事情也不愿让他们动手，替孩子包办一切，不给他们以独立自主的机会，这样会使得孩子见到人会羞怯，遇到事会丧失信心。
（三）主动自发对退缩愧疚
儿童从3岁到6岁之间，这是第三个关键期。这一阶段的危机在于主动自发对退缩愧疚的冲突。学前阶段儿童，语言已有了很大发展，在与人沟通时喜欢诉说、提问，对自己、对别人以及周围环境都表示好奇，而且喜欢自我表现。此阶段儿童已有了性别意识，认识到成人社会中男女角色不同。儿童开始模仿、认同他所喜欢的人，在行为上表现为讨好父母，希望得到父母的支持，此阶段儿童喜爱游戏活动。
这个阶段儿童已经开始接受类似正规的教育训练。教育训练应以游戏为主，在游戏中刺激感官、开发心智。在自然情境中，给儿童主动自发的活动机会，这样他们才会形成主动自发的性格。反之，如在家庭教育或幼儿教育中，提早教导孩子学习知识，这样会使得孩子提早置于学习不成功和失败的压力，反而会揠苗助长，养成他以后遇事退缩与事后愧疚的个性。
