松尾丰（Yutaka Matsuo），东京大学大学院工学系研究科副教授
1997年毕业于东京大学工学部电子信息工学科。2002年完成了该大学院的博士课程，成为工学博士。同年任产业技术综合研究所研究员。2005年起任斯坦福大学客座研究员。2007年开始任现职。兼任新加坡国立大学客座副教授。专业领域为人工智能、网络信息挖掘、大数据分析。
日本人工智能专家之一。曾获人工智能学会颁发“论文赏”（2002年）、“创立20周年纪念事业赏”（2006年）、“现场创新赏”（2011年）、“功劳赏”（2013年）等奖项。先后在人工智能学会任多职；2012年起任编辑委员长、理事；2014年起任伦理委员长。

Book Abstract

人工智能：是机遇，更是挑战
今年国庆长假期间，我驾车带着父母从北京回四川老家，来了一趟“自驾游”。尽管是平生第一次自驾远行，仅单程就遥遥两千公里，但在智能导航的指引下，我们基本上没有迷路，很顺利地完成了旅行。上了年纪的父母对此惊叹不已：“这导航真神了！你在哪里它竟然看得清清楚楚，还知道你在什么时候该往哪儿拐弯。”
今天，智能家电、智能手机、导航、人脸识别、智能机器人……不知不觉，我们的生活已经进入智能时代，智能无处不在。可以说，离开了智能，我们的生活将不可想象。尽管如此，对于人工智能，我们普通人又知道多少呢？
什么是人工智能呢？人工智能源于何时？人工智能是否会超越人类智能甚至征服人类？其发展过程中经历了哪些起起落落？今天来势汹涌的人工智能又将对我们的工作和生活、对人类社会带来哪些影响？这些无疑也是我们普通人极为关注的话题。
日本顶级人工智能专家、人工智能学会伦理委员长松尾丰先生撰写的这本《人工智能狂潮》，恰好对这些问题做出了较为全面的阐述和系统的回答。而且，该书用词浅显易懂，理论阐述深入浅出，真正称得上是一本“外行人也能看懂”的书，是一本不可多得的人工智能普及性读物。其实我本人并无理工科背景，对于人工智能也几近一无所知，因此对于翻译此书一开始也心存疑虑。然而，当我通读完该书之后，我发现该书属于科学普及读物，语言平实易懂，疑虑也随之变成了信心和动力。
作者尤其针对普通大众的忧虑进行了解答。该书原名为《人工智能会超越人类吗》。对“奇点”（Singularity，即指人工智能能够自主制造出超越自身能力的人工智能的那个时点）的争论使得一部分人忧心忡忡。对此，作者的观点是，借助深度学习，人工智能已经能够逐步发现世界的特征量并进行特征表示学习，这对于提高预测能力极为重要，但这距离人工智能拥有自我意志、能进行自我修正设计尚有天地之遥，因为人工智能不具备生命。因此，没有必要杞人忧天。
通过阅读本书，我感觉自己不但学到了有关人工智能的知识，了解到了人工智能将给我们带来的机遇与挑战，而且真切体会到了人工智能对自己的生活、对自己今后的职业生涯以及对社会将带来的重要影响。
机遇我想已经无需赘述，因为人工智能已经开始影响到生活的方方面面，给我们带来了各种便利和好处。相比之下，我们每个人倒是应该更多地思考它将对我们的职业、对我们的生活带来的挑战和影响。譬如，机器翻译就令我颇有危机感。尽管机器翻译的发展步履蹒跚，但是无疑随着技术的进步，其实用性将越来越高，今后人工翻译的生存之路必将受到挑战。不仅是翻译，很多行业都会因为人工智能时代的到来而发生颠覆性变化，因此如何未雨绸缪、积极应对挑战无疑极为重要。本书作者花了很大篇幅来预测人工智能对各种职业及社会的影响，读者只要认真阅读一定会有所收获。
机遇与挑战并存——在国家层面同样如此。作者在书中坦言，日本因为“第五代计算机计划”受挫而将“王冠”拱手让与了美国硅谷，从而错过了一个时代。我想，这对于中国也同样不失为一种警示：在互联网时代我们因为起步较晚而处处受制于人，在即将迎来人工智能时代的今天，中国的相关技术水平已经与欧美逐渐拉近，我们唯有迎头赶上并抢占制高点，否则也将错过“逆袭”的绝好机会。我们不但要努力做好今天的“互联网＋”，更需提前布局即将到来的“人工智能＋”。
在日本，人工智能及机器人等领域的研究开展得比较早，有很多值得我们学习和借鉴的地方，中国的“腾笼换鸟、凤凰涅槃”等经济转型战略也亟需相关理念和技术。它山之石可以攻玉，本书对于了解日本人工智能领域的发展现状及策略，对于我们借鉴其经验都很有帮助。
另外，在中国，普通百姓对于人工智能还不是很了解，因此出版此类普及性读物也很有必要。其实我也有一个小小的想法，等此书中文版面世后，我一定要让我的父母看看，省得下次开车回老家他们又感到惊讶：因为说不定到时已经不再依靠导航，而是直接改用“无人驾驶”了。

Introduction

人工智能的春天
如今，我们随处都能听到“人工智能”（Artificial Intelligence，以下简称为“AI”）这个词。然而，十年前却并非如此。
在我就读研究生的1997年到2002年这段时间内，每每向别人介绍自己是从事人工智能研究的时候，对方总会露出一副诧异的表情。而且，每次问起周围的研究者“人工智能为何不能实现？”时，他们也总会以苦笑的表情回应我。因为，在那段时期内，“人工智能”这个词本身，或者“人工智能能够实现”这种主张本身都是一种不可提及的禁忌。
时至今日，仍有一件事让我记忆犹新。当年研究生毕业之后，我成为一名年轻的研究者。要从事研究工作，就必须申请所需的研究经费。而且，对于一名年轻的研究者来讲，一年内能否获得数百万日元的研究经费，直接关系到他能否作为一名研究者生存下去。如此关乎“生死存亡”的重大事情，我不敢有一丝的懈怠，认真、仔细地将申请材料写好，做好准备等待接下来的一系列审查。
在2002年，我早已先于他人开始从事网络信息的研究，并且拥有了一系列先进的网络检索技术。即通过分析大量的主页信息，从中提取出大规模的具有相关关键词的网站。有些词语之间表面上看似毫无关联，但是通过该技术进行处理的话，就能够很好地找到其关联性，最终为相关网站起到良好的广告和推广作用。
书面材料审查顺利通过，于是我满怀信心地前去面试。在面试会场，其他领域的几位研究大家正襟危坐。在如此紧张的气氛当中，我开始用计算机阐述自己的研究经费申请理由。阐述结束之后，几位研究大家先就我的研究内容进行了详细盘问，之后说出了一番让我深受打击的话语：
“做什么广告研究！简直无聊透顶！”
“通过语言检索网站？哪有那么容易做到！”
而且，最后一句话更加过分：
“你们这些人工智能研究者，总是谎话连篇！”
不出所料，经过如此一番之后，我的研究计划彻底泡汤。如今社会上搜索引擎和相关广告模式都已司空见惯，而当时我所从事的研究虽然不足但却早已走在了时代的前沿。因此，即使现在想来，我当时所制订的也应该是一项不错的计划。然而，正是这样一份研究计划和研究热情，在当时遭到了意想不到的重创。对于一直跟随人工智能研究者们学习的自己来说，那一瞬间让我首次深切地感受到了世间的冷酷。
“绝对不能将‘人工智能’这个词轻易说出口！”
“只是提及‘人工智能’这个词，就会激发无数人的敌忾之心！”
那瞬间我所受到的巨大打击，化作自己首次申请研究经费时的苦涩、惨痛记忆，至今仍深深地印记在心。
然而，时代早已不同。
如今，世间正在迎来一股滚烫的人工智能热潮。网络新闻、报纸、电视、杂志，“人工智能”这个词无处不在。我也终于可以堂堂正正地向别人介绍自己正在从事人工智能研究，周围的人也会主动地靠近，告诉我今后将是属于人工智能的时代。所有这些都意味着人工智能研究者的明媚春天即将到来。接下来，我们播下的那颗种子便会生根发芽、枝繁叶茂、开花结果。一切都是那么美好！
然而，殊不知这颗美丽的种子，同时也是一颗忧郁的种子。它让我想起人工智能所遭遇的那两个黑暗、漫长的冬日。
其实，在此之前，人工智能曾迎来两次热潮。第一次大约是从1956年到1960年，第二次是在1980年左右。在我作为学生开始学习人工智能时，正好是其第二次热潮刚刚退去之后。
在过去的两次热潮当中，人工智能研究者们都在极力地宣传着人工智能的可能性。不，准确地说，或许他们自身并无意图那么做。只不过是，当时世人都在热捧人工智能，于是他们也顺势跟随了一番。在人们的热捧大势之下，众多企业开始投入人工智能的研究，国家也下拨巨额预算予以支持。
然而，两次热潮的来、去均遭遇了相同的命运。起初，对于“人工智能马上就能实现”这样的宣传，世人都激动万分。但是，相应技术并没有像想象的那样飞速提升，人们所描绘的美好蓝图并未实现。众多人工智能研究项目开始到处碰壁、穷途末路直至停滞不前。渐渐地，研究人员开始撤离，预算被大量削减，所有人开始怀疑人工智能是否真的能够实现。期待越高，失望也就越大。
一番滚烫的热潮之后，便只剩下了残酷的现实。而对于人工智能研究者们来说，面临的只是一个痛苦而漫长的阴冷冬日。而每当此时，所有人似乎都不敢轻易提及“人工智能”这个词，人工智能研究者们也只能在这种沉闷的氛围中继续钻研。无论境遇如何，他们一心只盼望将人工智能研究坚持下去、将智能之谜逐渐解开。
之后，众多的研究者们极力地克制着自己对人工智能的好奇心，并且无奈地将研究方向纷纷转向更具有现实意义的项目。对外他们不再敢打出“人工智能”的旗号，所有的一切都只能在暗地里默默进行。
如今，人工智能的第三春正在逼近，但我们却再也不能犯同样的错误！热潮是极其危险的！无论何时，我们的期待都必须建立在现有实力的基础之上。盲目地期待，是一件极为可怕的事情！如果人们不能充分地认识和理解人工智能技术的可能性和极限性，而只是一味地赞许和期待，那么历史的悲剧又会重新上演！
研究者们通过自己坚韧不拔的努力，成功地熬过了那些阴冷的岁月，最终再次迎来了属于自己的明媚春光。正因为如此，我特别希望读者朋友们能够正确地理解人工智能的现有能力、实际状况以及其可能性。这也是我著此书最大的目的所在。
如果想完全理解我所表达的内容，那么希望大家能够将此书认真读完。在此过程中最为关键的是，经历50年发展之后的一项崭新的技术——Deep Learning（深度学习）将会带给我们怎样的研究突破？我们又该如何正确地看待这项技术的意义所在？
大致来讲，要做到正确理解人工智能的现状，首先必须明确以下两点。
1．如果进展顺利，人工智能技术将会飞速发展。这是因为，如今，深度学习和特征表示学习[1]两项技术都已得到了很好的开发和拓展，而这两项技术意味着人工智能存在着极大的、飞跃性的可能性。或许，在未来几年或者十几年期间，人工智能技术将会被广泛应用，从而带来可观的经济效益。如果比作彩票的话，或许我们会大中5亿日元！
2．同时从另一方面来讲，现实当中，人工智能所能做到的事情依旧非常有限。基本上，机器人只能够机械性地完成一些规定的工作，被称为“学习”的技术也只能在规定的范围内完成有限的任务。它们不能随机应变，缺乏通用性和灵活性。但是，在某些特定的领域例如打扫或下象棋这些活动当中，它们却有可能超越人类的能力。（在很久以前，电子计算器在进行加减乘除运算方面早已战胜人类。那么与其相比，机器人战胜人类从事各项活动又有着怎样的不同之处呢？）人工智能完全支配人类，这原本就是不可能实现的假想。如果拿彩票来举例的话，那就是：为了抽中巨额一等奖，我们买来10张彩票。但是在揭晓中奖结果之前，我们所能获得的、现实的期待值只是那小小的300日元（在日本，购买价值3 000日元的10张彩票，即使未能中奖，购买者也可获得300日元的回报）。也就是说，我们必须明确认识自己的期待值与事物发展极限值之间存在的差距。当然，人类是有贪欲的。购买者一心想用价值3 000日元的彩票抽中一等奖的那笔巨款，其心情我们也是可以理解的。然而，在现实当中，能够如愿抽中一等奖的人却少之又少。
今后，人工智能或许会急速发展，但或许也会事与愿违。但是，至少就目前的状况而言，人们的期待值远远地超越了其现有的发展水平。因此，希望大家能够正确认识这一现状，同时也希望大家能够期待和支持人工智能技术的不断发展。今后的人工智能正如一注具有购买价值的彩票一般，一定会急速地、飞跃性地向前发展，大家完全可以相信其实力。有关其原因与根据，我在书中将会一一讲解。
为了能够让更多的人了解和认识人工智能，本书从最为基础的内容写起，非常浅显易懂。

Return Policy

You may return products within 30 days upon receiving the products. Sellers take responsibilities for any wrong shipment or missing items. Packing needs to be unopened for any other than quality issues return. We promise to pack carefully, but because goods are taking long journey to destinations, simple damages to packaging may occur. Any damages not causing internal goods quality problems are not allowed to return. If you open the package and any quality problem is found, please contact customer service within three days after receipt of goods.

Our Yami consolidation warehouse will directly ship the packages to you via UPS. The average time for UPS to ship from China to the United States is about 10 working days and it can be traced using the tracking number. Due to the pandemic, the delivery time may be delayed by about 5 days. The package needs to be signed by the guest. If the receipt is not signed, the customer shall bear the risk of loss of the package.
