阿明·马洛夫（Amin Maalouf）

法国知作家，法兰西学院院士。1949年生于黎巴嫩，1976年迁居巴黎。精通多国语言，曾周游六十余国，是阿拉伯及中东世界的专家。1983年出版首部文集《阿拉伯人眼中的十字军东征》，随后陆续出版小说《非洲人莱昂的旅程》《撒马尔罕》《迷失的人》等。1993年，以《塔尼奥斯的岩石》获得法国龚古尔文学奖。2010年，获西班牙阿斯图里亚斯王子文学奖。作品被翻译成二十多种语言，广受世界各国读者青睐。

2011年，阿明·马洛夫当选法兰西学院院士，继承前任院士列维―斯特劳斯的第二十九号坐席，是法兰西学院成立以来首位获此殊荣的黎巴嫩人。

前言

这部小书源起于一份内疚。

2011 年6 月，我双喜临门，一是入选法兰西学院，二是坐上我大学时代起即敬重有加的克洛德·列维- 斯特劳斯的那把椅子。

根据学院的礼仪，新院士要对他的前任作一番颂词。我很高兴得到这个机会，可以把这位人类学大师的著作阅读一遍，有些则是复读，还可对他那我知之甚少的一生作深入了解。这项任务振奋人心，尤其得益于教授的未亡人莫妮克·列维- 斯特劳斯的协助，她邀请我和太太到她在勃艮第的利尼罗尔庄园做客，向我慷慨地打开了她杰出丈夫的抽屉，以及她本人内心深藏的记忆。

从我入选法兰西学院到在学院圆顶下举行庄严的入院仪式，这中间相隔十二个月，我对此保持一段美妙的回忆，然而内心也有些许羞愧。

列维- 斯特劳斯教授坐的是第二十九号椅子，我浏览了一遍历任名单，发现其中一位在我写第一部著作时给了我宝贵的帮助，那是历史学家约瑟夫·米肖。当时我在巴黎拉丁区的一家书店偶然发现一套古版本《十字军东征史》，共七卷，出版于19 世纪初。我在其中摘取了一些至关重要的资料，这在其他地方是很难找到的。我打算在入院演讲中向他致敬，尤其他今天完全默默无闻，这样的纪念更加激动人心。

可是我的前任著作不可胜数，使我陷在里面脱不了身；既想介绍他的科学成就、学识历程以及不平凡的一生，同时又想向坐过这把椅子的另一位俊彦埃内斯特·勒南致敬。勒南晚年选择在黎巴嫩山的一个小村子里落户，写出了他最著名也是争议最多的一部书《耶稣的一生》。我不能撇开主题去谈另一位前任。最后我还是放弃了原本要谈米肖先生的那个小章节。

我思忖写一篇文章，或者若有机会做一场讲座，尽可能来弥补这个缺陷。于是，我作了一番研究，盼望去发现这位可敬教授的身世，以及通过这部篇幅浩瀚的十字军著作重现他渊博的学识。但是随着阅读的进展，在我面前呈现的则是另一位米肖：一名捣乱分子、鲁莽的冒险家，在大革命时期，因煽动罪坐过牢，关在那时的四国学院，这块地方不久前才改成拘留所，在今天则是……法兰西学院所在地。他从那里被重兵押送到杜伊勒里宫，革命法庭就设在里面，准备给他判个死刑。

我不相信复仇者幽灵，但是我愿意相信文学中有风流客幽灵，他们出没在那些古色古香的老房子和想入非非的脑海中。在我站起来宣读我的入院演说时，米肖的幽灵应该也出现在那个圆顶下，因为我原本不认为有必要在文中提到他。他确实在那里，在我身边，而我看不见他。

那时，我下决心投入工作来弥补我的过失，满腔热情去钻研这位历史学家的著作，追随他曲折多变的人生道路：他的出身、他的旅行、他被选上科学院、最后他的死亡。这样也使我对他的前一任与后一任的院士发生了兴趣。然后，由此及彼，对于在他之前与在他之后、最近四百年间所有坐过同一把椅子的人都发生了兴趣。

我有意要更好了解这些人，他们毕竟与我也有了某种精神上的传承关系，并期盼其中还有人会像米肖给我带来同样的激动。我没有失望，一路上不断地有所发现与感到惊讶，以致很快下决心不再针对某一个人，而是针对一支家族的人去完成这份工作。

开始撰写第一位“始祖”时，我承认我虽然坐上这把椅子已经有一段时间，还是连他的名字也从未听说过。
