Book Abstract

《文化怪杰·章太炎：大偏至正》：
一、汉学启蒙章太炎（1869—1936），出生在浙江省余杭县，初名学乘，改炳麟，字梅叔，枚叔。后又倾慕明末清初大学者顾炎武（本名绛）的为人，改名绛，号太炎。章家原来家境富裕，章太炎的曾祖父章均有百万资产，热心办教育，在海盐县教儒学时，曾出一万多缗钱设立南苕书院，又拿出千余亩地办“章氐义庄”，设家塾，招收家族子弟。章太炎的祖父童鉴继承家业，勤苦读书，家藏宋元明古书五千余卷。
不过到祖父这一代，章家已显出衰落气象。父亲章睿虽然做到过县官，但也不能挽回颓势。造成家道衰败的～个原因是太平天国军队的占领。这场战争使富饶的杭嘉湖地区田野荒芜，经济萧条，人民流离失所。1860年，太平军打到余杭，章太炎的祖父率领全家逃亡。为生计所迫，他用平时读医书所得知识给老百姓治病，太平军也愿意用他，还曾任命他为乡官。
有一次，他为太平军一个军官治好了病，军官很感谢他，他乘机提出辞去官职，专门行医，太平军答应了他的要求。作为一个大地主又受过正统教育，章均内心里把太平军视为造反的匪徒，不愿与他们“同流合污”。可以想见，他这个乡官如果做下去的话，后来太平军失败，清朝官府卷土重来，绝没有好结果。
章太炎的父亲忠君思想表现得更明显。太平军进驻他们家所在的仓前镇时，他匆忙中也不忘了带一本家谱。若干年后，左宗棠的军队攻打余杭，他专程迎接“王师”，献上地图和计策，被左宗棠采纳不少，后来得到了任用。因此说，毒睿身上也溅上了太平军将士的鲜血。章太炎后来追述家世时，对这一节的记述几乎没有，其时他已是个反清革命者，应该是感觉到这段历史的不光彩了。
经过这场战乱，章家只剩下一顷田。
世事难料。章太炎的父亲返回故乡后担任余杭县学训导，是当地最高学府的负责人，将来很多读书成才的人都要出自他的门下，因此也算得上一个头面人物。可借因为该县的知县制造了震惊全国的“杨乃武与小白菜案”，而童太炎的父亲帮助知县伪造证据，被清政府查办革职了。随后的日子，父亲闲居在家，以行医和教授儿子读书排遣时日。
章太炎的两个哥哥读书都很用功，而且也都挣到了功名——中了举。父亲对小儿子也寄予厚望。章太炎九岁那年，外祖父朱有虔来他家居住，父亲便请老先生教章太炎读书识字。
章太炎一开始受教育，就和在清代曾盛极一时的汉学有密切的关系。
汉学的“汉”字，不是汉族的意思，如果单单是包含汉族的意思，在清朝是绝不会被允许发展成一门学问的。汉学也称“朴学”，其研究对象是先秦和两汉的文献，所用的方法是以训诂和考据为基础，对文本进行深入细致的诠释。这种方法在汉代比较盛行，成为汉代学术的显著特点，因此称为汉学。它的复兴时期是在明清之交。明朝的学术是理学占统治地位，理学发源于宋朝，理论上讲系统，对古代典籍的解释，往往自出机杼，意在证明自己的感想和观念，因此不免有穿凿附会的地方。明朝追随宋朝，又掺杂了佛学学说，使理学更显得空泛玄远。这两朝的学术被总结概括为“宋明理学”。明朝灭亡，清朝入主中夏，世事剧变，引发许多汉族学者的思考，其中包括对学术的反思。
