《物流经济学》：
（三）第三利润源泉
第三利润源泉的说法也是日本权威学者西泽修先生在1970年提出的。他认为物流可以为企业提供大量直接和间接的利润，不但是形成企业经营利润的主要活动，而且也是国民经济中创利的主要活动。
人们把物质资源的节约和劳动消耗的降低分别称为“第一利润源泉”和“第二利润源泉”。由于受到科技和管理水平的限制，第一和第二利润源泉已近枯竭，潜力越来越小，利润开拓越来越困难，物流领域的潜力被人所重视，按时间序列排为“第三利润源泉”。“第三利润源泉”理论认为物流作为“经济领域的黑暗大陆”虽然没有被完全照亮，但经过几十年的实践探索，物流领域绝不会是一个不毛之地，肯定是一片富饶之地。
（四）效益悖反说
效益悖反说认为物流的若干功能要素之间存在损益矛盾，即某一个功能要素的优化和利益发生的同时，必然会使另一个或另几个功能要素的利益损失，反之也如此。这是一种此消彼长的现象，往往导致整个物流系统效率的低下，最终会损害物流系统的功能要素的利益。
效益悖反说是物流领域中很经常、很普遍的现象，是这一领域中内部矛盾的反映和表现。例如包装问题，在包装方面每少花一分钱，这一分钱就必然转到收益上来，包装越省，利润就越高。但是，一旦商品进入流通之后，如果简约的包装降低了产品的防护效果，造成了大量损失，就会造成储存、装卸、运输功能要素的工作劣化和效益大减。
在认识到物流系统存在着“效益悖反”的规律之后，物流科学也就迈出了认识物流功能要素，寻求解决和克服物流各功能要素效益悖反现象这一步。系统科学的广泛应用为此提供了新的视野，人们不仅可以将物流系统细分成运输、储存、包装、装卸搬运、流通加工、物流信息处理等功能要素来认识，而且还可以将这些功能要素的有机联系寻找出来，作为一个整体来认识，进而有效地解决“效益悖反”问题，追求总体的效果。
