斯图尔特·L·哈特，是全球著名的可持续发展和企业战略环境领域的泰斗之一，目前接替塞缪尔·C·约翰逊（Samuel C.Johnson）在全球企业可持续发展研究中心的席位，并在康奈尔大学担任管理学教授。他同时是美国密歇根大学威廉。戴维森研究所的杰出学者，还是可持续发展企业协会的会长。
目前，他在北卡罗来纳大学凯南弗拉格勒商学院的可持续发展企业研究中心和密歇根大学的企业环境管理项目（现在是厄尔布研究院双硕士学位课程）中教授战略管理。从杜邦和庄臣到联合利华和通用，都曾向哈特教授进行过咨询。现在，他是一位全球知名的演说家，在世界各地作过数百场关于可持续发展企业的主题报告
他所撰写的开创性论文《超越绿色：世界可持续发展战略》，于1997年荣获《哈佛商业评论》颁发的最佳文章奖麦肯锡奖。2002年，他和C.K.普拉哈拉德教授合作撰写的《金字塔底层的财富》也同样是一篇具有开拓意义的佳作。

正如我在前面建议过的，对减少成本而言，关注研发和技术改进尤为重要。比如印度的N-Logue公司，将其研发力量运用在如何提高产品的可支付性上，公司通过开发无线本地环路技术，大大降低了在农村地区搭建通信线路的成本。格兰仕公司同样独辟蹊径，将目光锁定在中国低收人人群这片市场，并以之作为驱动力，为其开发廉价并且高效节能的微波炉产品。因此，将金字塔底层市场出现的障碍转变为革新的动力之源，正为我们提供了降低成本的一条重要途径。
