第六节 中外古代人性论的比较评析
古代中国、印度、巴比伦和埃及（属阿拉伯）、希腊（属欧洲）（以下简称中外古代“四方”）是人类文明的发祥地，这里诞生了世界上最早的文化，也孕育了人类最早的宗教哲学与理性哲学思想。而这一成就显然是与人的活动、对人的认识，以及人性的弘扬紧密联系的。众所周知，文明时代的一般特征：一是创造文字，并用于记录文献；二是产生分工，以及由之而出现人际交往与商品生产的发展；三是出现炼铁技术，“学会对天然产物进一步加工”（恩格斯）；四是形成阶级和确立私有制；五是出现国家与作为政治、经济和文化中心的城市；六是确立一夫一妻制的家庭，取代群婚制。这也表明，没有对人的重视与人性的弘扬，是不可能出现人类文明的。一句话，中（中国）外（印度、巴比伦、埃及与希腊）古代文明的出现，为其认识人性、尊重人性与弘扬人性奠定了共同基础。
一、对人性的共识
（一）认识人性的地位
一般地说，古代思想家已经能够较自觉地把人同物及动物区别开来，确立了人在大自然甚至社会中的地位。如古代中国和希腊都提出了人贵说与人本说，强调人为万物之灵，或人既贵于物又贵于神。认为一切工作都应当以人为出发点，要爱人（民）、安人（民）与利人（民）；认为人的本性就是追求快乐、尊严与自由，必须顺应人性。古代印度与阿拉伯从“梵我一如”、“人性神赋”的观点出发，也肯定我心中的我“大于万有世界”，或人是“高于一切动物的存在”。
（二）了解人性的本质
古代东西方思想家都认为，人性是由各种要素构成的。其共同考察的是，人性同物性（动物性）、神性、个体（或自我）的关系，以及自我的发展过程。一般的共识是：人既含有物性，也含有神性（佛教称“佛性”）；有的还明确地提出了人类双性说，认为人类行为具有动物性与人性双重性，还认为人性属于自我，肯定人性的个体实在性，并且还有一定的发生与发展的过程。
Introduction

本卷为车文博教授主编的《中外心理学比较思想史》（共三卷）第一卷。它的任务主要是分别介绍中外古代“四方”的心理学思想，并对其进行比较评析。中国古代指先秦时期至清代末期。而所谓的外国古代，则包括欧洲古代（主要为古希腊罗马、中世纪和文艺复兴时期，并延续到近代科学心理学诞生之前）、印度古代（包括中世纪）和阿拉伯古代（包括中世纪）。现在国际学术界的共识是，世界上有四种具有地理特征并自成系统的文明体系（主要是哲学体系、伦理学体系与政治思想体系等），即中国文明、希腊文明、印度文明与阿拉伯文明。目前也有不少学者特别是西方学者，常将古代中国、印度与阿拉伯的文明合称为东方文明。当然，与此相应，古希腊文明就可以称为西方文明。可见，此“四方”包含着东方与西方。这也就是我们选取此“四方”的心理学思想作为探讨与比较评析之内容的依据。
中外古代“四方”的心理学思想均包含在哲学思想之中，因而可以称为哲学心理学思想，其哲学家也就是心理学思想家。但从某个角度看，哲学思想有两种，即世俗哲学与宗教哲学，二者对心理学思想的影响是不大相同的。就主要倾向说，在中国古代占主导地位的是理性哲学，其心理学思想也就基本上摆脱了宗教哲学思想的影响，只有道教的和佛教的心理学思想才属于宗教哲学思想的范畴；而其他“三方”则不然。在欧洲，古希腊的心理学思想是包含在哲学思想之中的，但到中世纪后，其宗教哲学（经院哲学）思想占了主导地位，因而其心理学思想基本上是受宗教哲学思想支配的，只有为数不多的心理学思想才没有打上宗教哲学思想的烙印。
