第2章流体的属性
本章讲述流体的几种基本属性。了解这些属性，对于我们应用流体力学的基本原理来求解实际问题是很重要的。
2.1固体和流体的区别
和流体相比，固体的分子通常靠得比较近。固体分子之间的吸引力是如此之大，以至于固体能保持其形状。流体的情况就不同了，其分子之间的吸引力小得多。理想的弹性体受到载荷时必变形，但载荷一旦除去，此弹性体必恢复到其原先的状态。有些固体是塑性的，此种物体在受到足够大的载荷作用时发生变形，在材料不发生断裂的情况下。只要施加载荷，变形就会持续下去；除掉载荷时，变形随即停止，但塑性固体不能回复到原先的状态。
流体分子之间的内聚力不够大，不足以将流体的各个微团聚拢在一起。因此，在很小的应力作用之下，流体就会流动；而且，只要这个应力存在，流动就会持续下去。
流体可以是气体，也可以是液体。但分子间的距离，气体比液体大得多。因此，气体是很容易压缩的；而当所有的外部压强除掉以后，气体会无限制地膨胀。因此，气体只有在被完全封闭的情况下才是平衡的。液体是相对地不容易压缩的；如果全部压强（其本身的蒸汽压除外）除掉，其分子间的内聚力可将液体维系在一起，因而液体不会无限制地膨胀。所以，液体是可以有一张自由表面的，在这个表面上除了其自身的蒸汽压强外，没有任何压强。
蒸汽是一种气体，其温度和压强都非常接近于它的液相。因此，水汽可以看作是一种蒸汽，因为其状态通常与水很接近，而气体则可以定义为高度过热的蒸汽，其状态与其液相相差很多。因此，空气可以认为是一种气体，因为其状态通常与液态空气差别很大。
气体或蒸汽的容积是受到压强或温度或这二者变化的严重影响的。因此，在处理气体或蒸汽时，通常需要考虑体积和温度的变化。在处理蒸汽及气体问题时，如果温度变化很大或涉及相变，这个问题就在很大程度上取决于热现象（热力学）。因此，流体力学是和热力学密切相关的。
