Book Abstract

鲁班，我国古代的建筑工匠。公输氏，名般，春秋时鲁国人。般与班同音，所以又称鲁班。曾创造攻城的云梯和磨粉的磨子，又相传曾发明木工工具。过去曾被建筑工匠尊为“祖师”。
这是明朝诗人梅之涣瞻仰了李白墓之后写的小诗。其中“鲁班门前弄大斧”一句，为后人所传诵，以至有人添了一句，变成对偶句：
很巧，那时候还有一个巧匠叫公输般。般与班同音，有的书上也写作公输班。有人认为，鲁班与公输般是一个人，因为公输般是鲁国人，所以叫他鲁班；也有人认为，鲁班与公输般是两个人，但他们都是古代的巧匠。
由于年代久远，关于鲁班的生平，现在知道很少。但是，关于鲁班的传说却很多。
据传说，锯就是鲁班发明的（我国考古工作者近年来在陕西蓝田县、武功县分别发现西周时期的铜锯，早于鲁班。因此，有人认为流传多年的鲁班发明锯子的故事并不可靠，但此说尚无定论）。
那时候，木工的工具只有斧头。鲁班带着徒弟，上山用斧头砍伐树木，非常吃力，常常累得满头大汗。有一次，他的手破了，鲜血流了出来。他一看，手不是被斧头碰破的，却是被野草叶子割破的。野草叶子怎么这样厉害呢？鲁班仔细一看，这叶子长长的，边缘上有许多锋利的小齿。
