这个比喻解答了一个问题：为什么在人生道路上，虽然有些人出发时有精良装备，过人的天资，较高的社会地位，接受过良好的教育，最后却远远地落后于那些各方面条件不如他们的人?无疑，答案是个人意志力的差异。
何为意志力?意志力是指人们为达到既定目标而自觉努力或坚持的程度。人的意志力不是与生俱来的，是在社会实践活动中逐渐培养锻炼出来的。美国思想家、文学家爱默生把意志力当作是一股鼓舞士气、振奋人心的冲劲。这就是说，一个人如果有强大的意志力，就能坚持不懈，去实现自己的目标，相反，一个人有高智商，没有意志力，则会遇挫折即畏缩不前，做事情半途而废。

恐惧会使人变成懦夫，会让人安于现状，会让人在危险面前退缩，会让人的一生碌碌无为，更严重的是，恐惧会威胁到人的生命。美国心理学家曾做过一个与恐惧有关的心理学实验。心理学家把一个死刑犯关在一个安静的房间内，蒙住他的眼睛，然后在他的腕子上刺了一个小口子(为了让他有疼痛感)，又把水龙头拧成滴水状态，之后稍微加快水滴速度，一段时间以后，罪犯以为是自己的血在流，最后活活地把自己给吓死了。这个实验虽然遭到了美国当局的起诉，却证明了恐惧强大的危害力。
没有人天生是无所畏惧的，任何人在遇到危险的时候都会产生恐惧感，意志力薄弱的人会选择退缩。这就好比是游泳，如果我们无法克服自己对水的恐惧，总是躲避着它，那么我们便永远学不会游泳。相反，如果我们能够克服恐惧，那么你就会发现自己甚至可以遨游于广阔的海洋之中。

二、参加运动
恐惧不仅会产生心理反应，而且会产生一系列的生理反应。当你感觉恐惧的时候，身体会分泌更多的肾上腺素，而参加运动便是消耗肾上腺素最好的方式。所以，当你恐惧时，不要什么都不做，最好是站起来走走，活动一下，适当地做一些肌肉收缩的运动。也可以跑跑步，走走路，甚至打打球。但是有一点需要注意，运动强度不宜太大。
三、积极参加集体活动

四、巧用心理暗示
