第一章 绪论
一、外科学及外科护理学的范畴
外科学是医学的一个重要组成部分，在医学的历史发展中逐渐形成外科学的范畴，且此范畴还在不断变化和发展。通常将外科诊治的疾病根据病因大致分为五类：①损伤：如内脏破裂、烧伤、骨折等因暴力或其他致伤因子引起的人体组织的破坏。②感染：因致病微生物侵袭致组织器官损害，可导致内脏器官坏死、脓肿，女胆囊炎、肝脓肿等。③肿瘤：分良性和恶性两种，绝大多数肿瘤需要行手术治疗。④畸形：如先天性心脏病、肛管直肠闭锁等需要手术治疗，而后天性畸形，如烧伤后瘢痕，也需要手术修复。⑤功能障碍性疾病：如肠梗阻、尿路梗阻等器官梗阻，下肢深静脉血栓形成、门静脉高压等血液循环障碍，胆结石、尿结石等结石形成，甲状腺功能亢进等内分泌功能失调等，也常需要手术给予纠正。
手术是外科工作的重要组成部分和手段，但是外科疾病并不一定都需要手术，而常在一定的发展阶段才需要手术。随着医疗技术的发展，一些原本需要手术的疾病，可以采用非手术方法治疗，如肾结石采用体外冲击波碎石。而原本无法手术的疾病，现在有了有效的手术方法，如先天性心脏病的手术治疗。内镜技术、介入治疗的发展也使外科与其他学科更趋于交叉，外科学的领域也在不断的变化。
外科护理学是护理学的一大分支，是研究外科病人身心康复的护理方法及预防保健的一门学科，主要包括医学基础理论、外科学基础理论、护理学基础理论及技术。外科护理学的范畴也随着外科学的变化而变化。外科护士与外科医师一起，对外科的疾患进行治疗与护理，并在护理的过程中，体现以人为中心的个体化的整体护理。同时外科护士的工作范畴也由医院向社区、家庭延伸。
二、外科学和外科护理学的发展
自人类出现以来，就有疾病，而且就有手术的存在，但直到19世纪，外科手术还是一种简陋而又危险的治疗方式。19世纪40年代，消毒灭菌和无菌技术、止血输血、麻醉止痛的问世，解决了长期困扰外科的感染、出血和疼痛等问题，这也成为进人现代外科学的标志。
