从企业数量增长情况来看，进入信息传输、计算机服务和软件业的私营企业数量增加最快，2008年，从事于该行业的私营企业有13573户，同比增长了11.76％，注册资本同比增长了11.4％，这与上海市积极调整产业结构，鼓励发展电子信息等高科技产业发展的产业调整战略相一致。从事于该行业的私营企业占私营企业总数比重仅为2.31％，户均注册资本约为131.89万元，从事于该行业的私营企业数量和资本都有较大的发展空间。从注册资本增长情况来看，进入交通运输、仓储和邮政业的企业注册资本增长速度最快，2008年，从事该行业的私营企业有21194户，占私企总数比重达到3.61％，同比增长10.31％，总注册资本为414.55亿元，同比增长了27.57％，户均注册资本达195.6万元。
十大行业中，户均注册资本最高的行业是房地产业，户均注册资本达746万元。2008年，在上海从事房地产行业的私营企业14994户，同比增长1.08％，占私企比重为2.55％；总注册资本为1118.56亿元，同比增长了15.62％，占私企总注册资本比重达11.45％。
