《中国社会科学年鉴：中国文学年鉴2014》：
经过15年的磨砺与撞击、吸收与融合，2013年，网络文学已进入成熟发展阶段。无论是从作家成长、行业发展，还是从读者期许、社会认同的角度来看，网络文学的存在已毋庸争辩，所谓成熟实乃进入“成年期”。这个阶段有可能持续10年或者更久，但最终必然要向主流价值体系回归，逐渐融人社会进步力量的主流。既如此，在今日，学界有必要消除门户之见，对它持有严谨而客观的审视态度，做好切实的学理研究，方能促进它的健康成长。从宏观上讲，网络文学既和国家的经济文化发展战略血肉相连，又与广大民众的情感诉求、阅读方式休戚相关，它的一时盛兴与长足发展并不矛盾，实是一种必然。近两年，网络文学在移动互联网的“护航”之下，通过自身努力赢得了资本市场、机构与政府的多重关注，获得了新的成长空间，正在蓄势待发，酝酿新格局的产生。可以做这样的乐观预见，假以时日，网络文学有可能将与其他艺术形式并驾齐驱，开创中国现代都市文化的新天地。
一、网络文学总体发展态势
及新现象
目前，网络文学已进入主流话语的视野，获得了社会力量的鼓励和支持，网络作家逐渐成为大众关注的人群，这说明网络文学作为行业已获得社会的认同。然而，在初露锋芒、快速发展之后，网络文学自身存在的若干痼疾并未消除，由此而产生的潜在危机始终如达摩克利斯之剑悬在上空。在全新发展的起始阶段，就更值得我们引起重视。
优势：当前，网络文学得到了众多社会力量的关注，特别是政府部门的重视；网络文学行业竞争激烈，但第三方阅读平台模式或助其“转危为安”。
2013年，内部和外部重要事件集中出现，预示网络文学迎来了新的起点。
第一，政府部门对网络文学发展高度重视。本年度中国作协吸收了16位网络作家入会，第七次全国青年作家创作会议，共有19位网络作家代表出席，标志网络作家正式登堂人室，参与新世纪主流文学话语的建构。由国家新闻出版广电总局主办的第三届中国出版政府奖，再次将网络文学作品纳入正式评选范畴。中国文联正在加快“网上文联”数字文艺工作平台建设，力求构建具有强大数据存储与共享能力的“文艺四库全书”。
第二，文学网站乘势而上，展开细部实力“比拼”，并着力于网络文学长远布局。10月30日，由中文在线发起，联合17K小说网、纵横中文网、创世中文网、逐浪小说网、塔读文学网、百度多酷文学网、3G书城、铁血读书、17K女生网、四月天小说网等知名原创文学网站共建的网络文学大学成立，这是一所旨在培养网络文学原创作者的公益性大学，诺贝尔文学奖得主莫言应邀担任名誉校长。12月25日，上海视觉艺术学院携手盛大文学创造文学教育新模式，首开国内艺术教育网络文学专业本科全日制艺术教育。课程教材将由业内专家及网络文学知名作家、盛大文学一线精英共同编撰，采取学分制教学模式。上海市作家协会主席王安忆等人成为首批特聘教授。12月30日，盛大文学为其唐家三少成立工作室，这一举措，除了代表着盛大文学在整体作家服务及支持体系走向更加的精耕细作，也意味着盛大文学不懈努力的全版权运营模式获得升级。
第三，IT精英团队看好网络文学领域，网络文学业内加快整合步伐，呈现结构重组态势。新组建的“创世中文网”与腾讯合作于2014年5月底上线，不久，“腾讯文学”高调亮相，宣布下设“创世中文网”和“云起书院”，宣告网络文学成为腾讯核心业务。7月9日盛大文学召开战略发布会，正式宣布已通过私募融资总计1.1亿美元，称此次所得资金将重点用于提高作家待遇、强化内容，并实现盛大文学的开放战略和移动战略。百度也开始紧锣密鼓布局原创文学，在建立百度多酷之后，以19亿美元收购了91无线，岁末又以1.9亿元人民币将纵横中文网纳入旗下。新浪网则与北京维阅信息技术有限公司合作，成立新浪阅读公司，确立包括新浪读书、微博读书和微漫画三个品牌与业务。人民网和凤凰网也先后并购和创建了自己的文学网站和频道，进军原创网络文学领域。
